Guess who's been on eBay again ????????? Antique leather travel set in fairly nice condition Box of Arko Shave sticks (x 12) "Empire" Concave Satin Glass Safety Razor Blade Sharpener "A scientific grinding surface" And I was buying some leather pieces for a small job I was doing around the house and I found the tin with clear windowed lid with open/close ability for some breathing holes around the rim AND magnetic base, SO in went one of the Arko Shave sticks which I pulled apart and pressed into the tin. NOW, to decorate the tin somewhat. " To the engravers Robin, fetch the Shave-mobile!!" Oh, yeah, I'm not advertising for the above company, that is just my fridge being held up by my new shave tin (I think I'll name it Rim Tin, Tin)
I am at my Mom's for Thanksgiving and one of my Dad's friends since he was a kid left a couple of Straights that he got from another octagenarian in town. The round point is a Jowika and the other is a Jas T Scott. They are both in pretty good shape. The scales on the Scott need to be cleaned up. The Scott also feels darn near shave ready. I might just strop it and give her a whirl tomorrow. Not too bad for an investment of $0. I am going to buy him dinner.
Well I'm not sure if I'll actually get them this month, but my Dad just found my grandfathers straight razor and WWII military issued safety razor. quality is not great, but here is a picture
Holy freakin' reek of Arko, Batman! That's a lot of soap! Enjoy it all! And I imagine you won't have to worry about any of those 9 billion poisonous Aussie vermin sneaking up on your shave den either.
Finally got my hands on a Gillette FatBoy. I was looking for any adjustable (FatBoy, Slim, Schick) so I was extra pleased that my first one was a FatBoy (G2). Serious amount of grunge that still needs some more work and maybe eventually a replate but I think I got it cleaned up enough to take it for a test drive this morning.
"There's no flys on me". If I get sick of shaving, maybe I can "clean up" in the insect business .????
I just received TOBS Eaton College. I'll whip up a bowl with a drop or two, three, four of M-Bomb! A nice way to say goodbye to November and hello to December.
I am happy for you. That is the one that has alluded me. I got the Schick M first and then a Slim. Love them both. But I'm still trying to get a Fat Boy, but I need a deal.
Jim I paid $25 and it came with one of those metal shave stick containers that's about 3.5" long and 1.5" in diameter. I didn't take a picture of the shave stick container because I didn't have a lot of time yesterday and was busy with Scrubbing Bubbles and vinegar baths trying to get all the grunge off the razor so I could shave with it this morning. The shave stick container was pretty grungy too but no dents. It says "Williams Shaving Stick" and "Pat'd in USA Nov 19, 1907" on the top. I probably could have got it $5 cheaper but seeing what they go for on eBay I felt like I was stealing it as it was. I might have a line on another FatBoy so I'll let you know if I can pick it up at a reasonable price. I've had my eyes open for anything that's adjustable (Schick included) but I need to buy some injector blades. I've got 2 Schick razors now but no blades (except some vintage ones that have rust spots) to use with them. Does the Schick M shave better or worse than the Slim or just different? I know, I know, YMMV.
You did very well on that deal. I shaved with a Schick for about eight years until the Trac // came out. I never had the adjustable until a few months ago. I really like it. Schicks are great razors, but the adjustable takes it to another level. You can get Schick injector blades at the drug stores, and they good. My Slim does an equally good job. I feel like the Schick is a bit more maneuverable, but I really like them both.
