Picked up a couple travel razors yesterday. The Gillette has never been used and the Gem might have been used a few times if that.
I went to my Dad's today and was able to pick up my Grandfathers straight and WW2 issue safety razor... The safety razor is a Canadian issue Gillette Khaki dated 1932. The blade bank is missing and the case and razor are in rough shape, but there are some vintage blades. One new (but heavily rusted) Gillette Blue, one new Gillette Super Stainless, and 4 Sheffield Specials. The straight is an I*XL Geo Wostenholm & Sons Canuck. The straight came with what I have to assume is the original coffin, with it's own branding. I can't make out much, but there is a lable on the inside that saysE.H. Robinson, High-class Cutler, 74, Bishopgate. 293 is hand written under that. I don't expect that either of these items would have a high resale value, but being my Grandfather's they are very important to me, and I look forward to using them...
Today´s Haul: Petal Pusher Fancies "Starter Kit" The Scent of the soap is really nice. Wonderful lather.Creamy, stable and thick. Very nice. The brush and the razor are on the cheap side. The razor is a lightweight.I will give it a try once a day.The same thing with the brush...not the best quality. But both items will be ok for a shave if you´re on a road trip or something like that and don´t want to take your good razors and brushes with you. So...it´s ok for an acceptable price. I don´t want to comment the blades. They are very good.As the soap too. I can highly recommend the soap. Greetings Thorsten
I've been looking at PPF for awhile now. The Black Tea or Sandalwood are what catch my interest. You might have done enough convincing for me.
Just arrived from Shavetools: (sing with me now...) One stick of Erasmic Two pucks of Erasmic and a tube of Erasmic shave cream. (happy penguin dance optional)
@Weeper Warrior and @ Ryan B I WILL show pics of the Jet DEFINETLY!!! Hope they will show the razor in his (hopefully) full beauty. For me this is a very stylish razor. Loved it since i saw the first pic of it. And Ryan,it has been a pleasure for me to help you getting this soap. Hope you will like it too. If i can give you an advice...don´t buy the "Starter Kit". Unless you want to own a razor and a brush with less quality. The soap lathers up like hell. A good amount of water in your brush,a few rounds over the soap and you have a rich, slick and CREAMY lather with lots of cushion and very good skin feel. Enjoy it. And tell us how you like it. I want to know it too. Greetings Thorsten
I just received an email from my sis, who is visiting Paris for a few weeks: "Bonjour, Kevin! I successfully found 'Planete Rasoir' and you will soon be in possession of a 200g savonnierie (Martin de Cambre). By soon, I mean when we swing through on our visit later this month! I picked out the scented one, it was light and refreshing. I got Glen (my nephew) the smaller one since he expressed interest when I told him about it." What a sweet sister! So it's only the second of December and I've already added to my 'December haul' with absolutely NO effort on my part.
Awesome...I really hope you like it, after I hyped it up a bit. Just out of curiosity, do you know how much it cost over there?
A british Popular 1938... You can see it's an old razor, but I'm very curious about shaving tomorrow morning!
I got my 2 Rolls Razors and the Merkur Solingen in the mail today. Beautiful razors, and the Rolls have the boxes and paperwork (instructions, price tag, sales slip, etc) and the Solingen is very nice and in a leather carry case. Pictures to follow later today when I'm back home. w00t!
I stopped by a local antique mall this morning, and found what is probably my best purchase yet. 5 Gillette safety razors (including 2 Fat Boys) that should all clean up nicely, and an Old Spice mug with the original soap, still sealed:
