Is it just me or do barbers take off more hair than the agreed upon amount?

At my regular shop, she knows how much to take off. I can never remember the numbers and length, but she can. Fabu result everytime :)

I guess maybe I've just have incredibly bad luck.
One of the 8 barbers I mentioned earlier in this thread claimed that he "specialized" in flat tops.
I usually wear my hair pretty short, and I hadn't had a flat top
in a while, so I thought why not?

Well, I can tell you why not.
    I didn't get a flat top.
I wound up with a genuine MOHAWK.
Yes, I'm serious. (and before anybody asks, no I don't have any pictures...)
The worst part was that the barber was so proud of himself.
When he turned that chair around and I seen what he had done, I just got
up and walked out. (up until that day, I thought dyslexia was a reading disorder.)
In my entire life, I've never once wanted to punch a barber in the face.
I sure wanted to that day.
I came straight home, and had my 13 year old daughter do her best to clean it up
and make it look more like a crew cut. (which she did pretty well)
So, if you've got a decent barber near you, count yourself lucky.

And the lesson here? I guess, have a 13 year old cut your hair.

One lady faded one side of my hair too short, cut my sideburns all crooked and made my hair line uneven. That was when I had pretty long hair in high school. I told her I wasn't paying for that and that she will fix it free of charge.

Another guy who was an Iraq vet turned barber did a horrible job on my hair too. He kept messing up my sideburns and once again didn't fade right. He made it look like a bowl cut. Plus he had a horrible attitude and often sent me to the lady so he wouldn't have to deal with me. Surprisingly, she cut hair better than he did but it still wasn't that good.

I am on your side bbbbMMbbbb my barber did the same to me twice I thought the first time he had made an error of judgement, but he done it again and for the last time, never been back since and found another that has ears that work.

It is always good to hear that I am not crazy.

It seems like most barbers just don't care.

It sounds really bad. Here, 9/10 barbers are good. It sounds like it's reversed in the US :-(

The only barber I've ever been at that gave me a lousy cut was also about half price, around $20 for a simple haircut. I'd rather pay double as I do now that one time a month and then be sure it's a good result.

$40 USD? All the barbers here in my area charge $10. Never had any problems.

It isn't so much a bad haircut as much as it is just them deviating from what was discussed. I wouldn't flip out over this and not pay them or something. It is just annoying that they take the liberty to deviate.

Up until I moved, I had been going to the same barber for over 10 years. He is the best one I've ever had cut my hair. He could fade like no other and only charged $10 per customer.

I've never been able to find a barber as good as him or one that took as much pride in their job as him.

Actually, the little Asian ladies that cut hair at the PX's on Army posts cut hair pretty well too. They are probably the only ladies I will let near me with clippers. All the other ones have been mediocre.
