My sister brought a little gift from Paris: a 200g tub of Martin De Candre Fougère (fern) shaving soap.
A very unique scent— one that I do like. A tub this size will last for some time. :)

@Bobcat: Bob,have you tried the Pino Silvestre Aftershave as well? I ask because i like the scent of the AS. The only thing i hope,is that the EdT is long lasting in comparison to the AS.The AS lasts about 30 minutes on my skin. Maybe you can tell me a bit about the EdT.

@Kevin: Martin de Candre is a very nice soap. I hava a sample of the Unscented Version which still smells a little bit like citrus.Very nice. I wanted to try the Fougere version for a long time, but the price is way to high. Even if you get many many shaves out of this big thing. Wow. Have fun with it my Friend.

    Thank you.

Thorsten-I have not. The Pino Silvestre EdT does last several hours but is not overpowering, at least to me. I too really like the scent. I just ordered the AS to go with it.

Here's my antique store finds for the few days after Christmas. Would some of you tell me what you would have paid for these?

Five Ever-Ready brushes. (I don't know what the hair is in the all-blue brush, but it feels like porcupine.)

Two Gillette TTO razors. I'd appreciate any help you could offer in ID-ing them.

An Adyl travel razor kit. It's in pretty good shape. I can't find anything about "Adyl" on the web. When I search for it, all the results are for "lady" razors.

    Merry Christmas to me!

The first of your razors seems to be a Gillette Superspeed. But i don´t know the Date. The 2nd one of your razors is a Gillette Slim Adjustable long handle named "Black Beauty".:) I hope i´m right so far...if not, please be so kind to correct me. :)

Thanks, Thorsten. The MDC was very generous gift from my older sister, who was familiar with my 'wet-shaving' addiction. :D I am pleased to finally get the opportunity to try the soap, considering all the favorable reviews I've read about the product. The price ($50-65) has always prevented me from ordering some, but it now appears I have enough to do some thorough shaving tests. My sister 'sampled' both the unscented and the fougere versions, and chose the scented variety as she enjoyed the smell. She also picked up a smaller size for her son, Glen (my 22 yr old nephew) who recently 'got into' wet-shaving. I do expect 'big' things from this soap, and the MDC has to impress me enough to consider more due to the hefty price tag. There are just so many other quality soap options available at a lower price point.

Your sister seems to be a very nice person. :) I hope to see a review (or a little comment) on the MDC from you. You are so right with the price of the soap....there are a lot soaps which are cheaper than this one. The price is the reason i havn´t bought one for me. But i think if you don´t like the soap, there are plenty of guys here, which love to take it. Me included, but the shipping to Germany would be too much. ;)

So,i wish you luck with your fougere. Enjoy it.

    Greetings

There is a new soap out there called Tiki soap that uses the same formula as MdC. It's made by a small time artisan in Alabama. She doesn't even have a website, but does her ordering through Facebook. $6 for a pretty good sized bar. I talked to an MdC aficionado who said this soap is exactly the same as the MdC he knows and loves.

Just in time for the end of December, but not for use until the new year....

From SRD: a tub of lime SS, a tub of Vanilla Bourbon SS, and a wee wedge/sample of their frankincense. At the moment, the soaps are too cold from transit to really get a sense of what they smell like, but I have the feeling that I'll be very happy.
