1. Yeah I could see that as well
  2. What do you mean by menthol? Menthol doesn't have a smell to me, it is more of a characteristic. So, it may just be that we are using different words to describe the same thing.

Yeah, I think this is the gum it reminds me of.
  3. Looking to get some more stuff from Stirlings. I want to get MITA and probably The Scots Pine. Want to try them.
Does anyone know if the Bay Laurel After Shave Stirling has on clearance smell like their Bay Rum Shave soap?
  4. The Scots Pine is one of my favorites.

I haven't used the Bay Laurel AS, but I wouldn't expect it to smell too similar. Bay laurel is the bay leaves used in cooking, a different plant than the Caribbean bay used in bay rum.
  5. Thanks
Thanks Chuck. That's what I figured on the Bay Laurel I hope Rod comes out with some more AfterShave scents.
    Primarily Glacial, and Barber Shop.
  6. The original formulation soaps that I bought in August of last year are much better than the newest formulation. The newer ones do not produce as thick and protective a lather. Also, they are mushy and fall apart easily. The old Scots Pine Sheep shave soap is the best of the older lot with mutton tallow.

I think the Stirling scents smell nothing like described, just weird chemical smells, awful scents. They contain essential oils or absolutes, but something about the other ingredients must be tainting the odor.

Barrister & Mann has great soaps for double the price, but great scents that smell like the descriptions and they lather well. Mike's Natural soaps are a thicker, more tallowy lather than Barrister and Mann and have okay scents. I think Barrister & Mann is far superior a soap in being a consistent good protective lather with wonderful scents. Try the Clary Sage or Roaming.
  7. YMMV I tried both and thought Barrister and Mann's performance was mediocre compared to Stirling (or Proraso). If a soap is unable to soften my beard I wont buy it.

  8. Does any one know where the soap is made? I went to their web site and it didn't say. I have been using a Soap Puck from Van der hagen that came with my mug. I like it but would like to try some other brands. Thanks.
  9. You have to learn how to lather each soap you use. Each one takes time to learn how much water and swirling to get the right lather. MWF is a great soap but not as easy to lather, unless you add water to the puck first to allow it to soften or use a stiff boar brush. The lather is great. Barrister & Mann and Proraso make great lather as well, enough to soften anyone's beard, if I understand what you mean by that, if you know how to lather them.

If you want a terrific lather-maker, try Tabac and the scent is wonderful. Or if you are trying American made artisan soaps, Mike's Natural out of Brooklyn is very good and Petal Pusher Fancies is a fine latherer.
  10. Stirling Soap is made in Killeen, Texas. Barrister & Mann is made in Boston, Massachusetts.
  11. Ok Chesty, my last order was shipped from Killeen, Texas, just as lindyhopper66 said.
  12. Thank You.....I found their web page, and the one I was looking for is out of stock.
    "Semper Fi"
"If We Can't Haul It.......You Do Not Need It! MotorT
  13. Are you referring to the Glacial shave soap? I ordered the sample of Glacial and it came in even though the full puck is out of stuck.

    Semper Fi Devil Dog!

  14. Yes I was I guess I will order the sample of the Glacial. Thanks OOHRah!

  15. The Sample Pucks at Stirling are very generous so grab a handfull like I did. I and my family have been enjoying their soaps and lip balms this past week very much.
  16. Ya these are very good samples it could take about 3 mounths to kill one
  17. Thank You very much for the information. Go Denver:football:
  18. Finally used the Glacial soap and yes it's cold but not as cold as I was expecting. No vapors in the eyes, no tearing up. Just a solid very cold soap. Finished it of with Kramperts Frostbite AS. Now that has some vapors to it. Glacial is a great soap. Just not as cold as I was expecting.

  19. Lather your brush and let it sit. It wasn't as cold the first time I used it. The 3rd time I used it my left eye started burning.
  20. Yep I did that as well. Good cold soap. I like it.
