That is my only problem with this forum :p I am quite vulgar. What words are acceptable if any?

No vulgarity or cuss words or censored cuss words allowed outside of the "no holds bared" section.

Anything outside of "no holds bared" is to be suitable for a young child and/or your grandmother to read.

Problem is culture. Words where I come from are god forsaken here. And the other way around. The way some here preach openly to God is highly offensive in my country most over.

So check the link above and you should be good :)

That is intriguing. I've been asked about that before by a member from outside the US. They didn't indicate it being offensive, but perhaps it was and they just didn't say.

I'm trying to think of where such a thing (preaching openly to God, as you say) would occur, outside of a church or the internet.

Not trying to take this to a religious discussion, as those can get as bad as political discussions.

Well, offensive might not be the right word. It's not offensive like it gives weeks of bad sleeps. It's just... well... annoying in lack of a better term.

But what I mean is that the cultural is very different. With words I've had my share of "interventions" with the mods. Because I've used words here that my grandmother would use without blushing and words you hear on TV. I was told it was offensive and I was like "say whaaaaaaaaaat???". It totally dumbstruck me. Because I was not trying to be offensive - it was just normal speaking to me. In TV here you _never_ hear a beep. In US TV you hear "beep beep beep" all the time. Everyone knows what they're saying but they still try to obscure it.

So I've had to adjust my writing quite a bit. Sometimes I think "I wonder if this is allowed", because there are many holes a Dane like me could fall in :)

TV shows allow such bad words now and days. It doesn't even make sense the way they bleep one word but not another.
Not to even mention the somewhat recent fuss over bleeping on the show Duck Dynasty. They weren't using bad words, and yet bleeps were being added to the show "for effect" or some such silliness.

Is cussing at work and in public a generally acceptable thing in Denmark?
People cuss in public in the US, but I wouldn't say it's acceptable. Eyes will turn if you say bad words in public.

It's a general thing here. In moderate portions. If a person swears all the time he/she is not considered seriously. But a few cuss words here and there is nothing to frown upon. It's funny, because we don't want our children to say them, but "everyone" swears in the end of the day.

I've never worked a place where cussing is not accepted. Used the right way. If you cuss (public or work) people might turn the eyes but that's more out of "okay he's angry and means business" rather than "OMG hear the words he's using, what an immature nutcase". Cussing is used to amplify the meaning but some cuss-words (that I can't write here I assume) is plain and simple regular danish (some derived from English) that even the Queen herself uses (okay exaggerated a bit but you get my drift.). Those are the words that put me in the cross fire here - words I use as regular words though their original meaning is actually a cuss word but not perceived as such any longer (aside from here :D )

I think, now that I think about it, that cuss words here are used in two manners. 1) To amplify something like "******* cool car, Bro!" and then 2) OMG get the *** out you ****** ****". And then some just swear all the time no matter what, which is annoying. But point 1 and 2 is general and accepted.

Generally, mods should be making an edit for inappropriate content and then PMing the poster to let them know about the edit and the reason why it was done.
I would say our mods are fairly thoughtful of situations when handling mod duties. They should know you well enough to know you aren't running around TSD trying to cause trouble.

I'm sure they do and it has all been dealt with in a calming positive nature. No problems there. This board is throughout a very pleasant place to hang out and people know how to talk to each other. I'm not a member on that other board but from what I read here it's a totally different experience there.

It depends upon the work environment. I have worked in the past with agencies and businesses where the use of colorful language was common place among the workers. Never in business communication with outside vendors and clients, nor the general public. I chose not to participate in the use of such language, but that is simply a personal choice I made.
Obviously now that I work in a church office, the language use dynamics are a bit different. ;)

People curse at the work place here as well. Usually the blue collar industries can let the expletitives fly on a regular basis, but in a white collar business setting, it's frowned on as its not considered professional.

The point should be; if you say something in such a way that would offend the normal person. Just find a different way of saying it. When I say "I had the worst shave of my life this morning", how is adding swear word or cuss words making my point any stronger?

I like to think when I come to TSD, I'm treated with respect and give respect. I'm able to express my views and hangout with great folks. I see no reason to use vulgar or offensive language.

I grew up hearing cuss words from everyone for as long as I can remember. It is something that has rubbed off on me. Often times I find it hard to not use cuss words. Like if I hurt myself or I'm working on something and it breaks; I really have difficulties there.

It's easy here, because I can actually sit down and think about what I'm about to say. It's no problem to enact a filter here even though I have slipped and had to be warned by the mods here. Life goes on and nobody lost sleep over it.

I've been known to use a lot of curse words - not so much in English, but in Hebrew, French, Russian, German, Arabic, and Greek which are some of the other languages I speak. Most of my employees and customers are Greeks and Russians and I speak to them in Greek and Russian and the F word sometimes is used a little too often than it should be. Over here I make it a point to curb my cursing and to be respectful.

I understand the the Russians are particularly fond of the F word (and applying it to one's maternal unit) and quite inventive with cursing in general.
