So I've been using what I will call a cheaply made badger brush a few times a week and the knot just pulled out of handle. Kind of disappointing as I've been using other brushes for years with no issues. Does anyone know what kind of glue is best to toss this mediocre badger back in it's cage?
Marine grade epoxy, IMO. Just be careful with what amount you use so it doesn't soak into the base of the knot. Also it'll be good to clean as much of the old glue out of the knot before redoing it.
I've used silicone adhesive in all of my restores. You may decide to replace the knot some day with a better one and it's fairly simple to remove the knot if it's held in place with silicone.
Where would I buy a knot without a brush? ( this basically came with a shave set). The set was a good value as it came with a decent mug, stand and puck. I use the heck out of my parker and semogue and would love to put a decent knot in this that would last for years instead of weeks
Wow nice webpage I can write a fountain pen infused letter about how much I love their badger knots. Is the diameter of the brush handle the size of knot?
I've heard the glue can weaken with too hot water. Was this the case? My Tweezerman met the same fate after a year of use. I try not to use too much hot water now and do a final cold water rinse.
. i do use hot water as it soaks in a scuttle while I shower. I never had the issue with my other brushes which is why I chaulked it up to a brush issue but could be a shaver error as well. The wierd thing is that I only used this brush probably a dozen times
Diameter of the opening in the handle Or what I usually do is order a handle from hoosier troopers link and the knot from mine. Resin handles from whipped dog run like 5 bucks or so
The easy answer to your question and you may have a boar van der Hagen .... They are known for the massive shedding; though they do make a badger too. Either way use a water and mold resistant epoxy either marine or silicone BUT and this is important a non caustic epoxy as you do not want to "eat" the hairs, just hold them in the socket. The measurement ( I don't think this question was answered ) of the knot is the opening of the actual hair not the diameter of the brush. So your best bet is either of those two as long as it is rated for temps over 160-180 which your regular water heater should never go over anyways unless you want 3rd degree burns , is water proof, and is mold resistant. Hope that helps !

I aslo have the VDH Badger brush and It was a good brush for about a year almost. It shed quite a bit but i thought last night I would try it out with some cella and it worked well until the knot fell out! (After the shave though ). I forgot how scratchy it was compared to my Duke! I think i'll replace it with a better knot instead of trying to put the old back in. Thanks for posting the great links!
