Well, I must have been delusional but had a good shave. I picked these up a couple of weeks ago at an estate sale. I offered the guy $25 for a barometer and the 3 razors. I wanted the barometer, he accepted. The razors are all pretty much like new. I think this is a Super Speed, is this what they call a "black beauty"? Well, I'd appreciated it if somebody would let me know what I picked up. The other 2 are Gems, one of which is a G handle. Have a good one.

That's right - 3 razors to get the job done today. I tried to use a Schick J2 for the first time and was hoping for success after Thursday's shave revealed that the Schick L1 I'd recently purchased has something wrong with it and won't hold the blade properly. The J2 looks perfectly fine but no matter what angle of attack my whiskers just laughed at it. I then pulled out the PAL Adjustable that I haven't been able to make work but I had read that the angle was critical so I figured that was my problem but alas no matter what angle I tried it too just took the shave soap off and left all the hair right where it was. Not to be deterred I pulled out my trusty Parker 80R with a fresh Crystal blade and with two wonderfully smooth passes taught those whiskers a lesson.
Went with Jasmine for shower and shave scent and after the Thayer's unscented a few drops of T&H 1805 from a sample vial to finish me up.

Well, guys - which of these super-mentholated soaps is stronger between the Yeti Snot and the Glacial? The answer is neither - it's a tie. They're both colder than ten tubes or bowls of Proraso Green or Ingram, or Godrej Menthol Mist or any other menthol cream or soap that I've tried. This Yeti Snot has rich, slick lather - perhaps not so thick, and the scent is very mentholy and pepperminty. Like the Glacial, its menthol power is so intense that it causes your eyes to tear and your nose to run. Skincare-wise, it's pretty decent although the Glacial is ahead of it. The Visal gel and the Rubby Dubby Doo felt so frigid afterwards, just the way I love it. This was an awesome shave! :) :D (Sorry, no photos today!)

Where to start. Great brush! I like the design.

The Gillette Razor is the last incarnation of the Super Speed series circa 1970s. The ones we call "Black Beauties" are the replacements for the FatBoy (Short Handled BB) and Slim (Long Handled BB). They also go by the name Super Adjustables.

One of the Short Handled Black Beauties is seen in this location.

1st time using this razor (sorry for the bad picture of it). Great comfortable shave. Going to use it for the whole month. Wonderful shave today, can't wait to spend some quality time with it. May be my new go-to. As always the HTGAM gave a great dense, slick, and protective lather. I think this brush is due for a cleaning, the tips are not as soft as they once were, but it has seen a lot of use since I've acquired it some time ago.

I decided that I needed more face to shave, so the van dyke chin whiskers were removed for the first time in over 2 years. I kept the mustache. Face lather with the Cella and had a good 3 pass shave. Found a couple of bumps/IGHs in the area covered by the beard and made a couple of weepers. Styptic pencil took care of them and finished off with the clean smell of CC lime.

Hows the Vie-Long treating you now? Is it broken in and performing better? I know it wasn't producing great lathers when your first got it. Just curious.

Shaving Yeti Pass Around - Orange Dream Cicle
The Yeti nailed the scent - think of those orange push-ups off the ice cream truck when you were a kid. It's a good combination of orange and vanilla. I think it would be fantastic if it also had some menthol to complete the memory.
I put some water on the puck while I was in the shower, and it lathered up easily and generously on my HIS synthetic. The soap is a solid performer, and in would place it in the good to very good category. It is a good value as well.
I pushed the Gillette yellow blade one more day, mostly from laziness, and I paid for it with a couple weepers. I'm still learning the Old type, but now I'm curious about modern open combs... Maybe their angle is easier to maintain? I'll find out someday.
The Krampert's flask is tricky to control the pour, so I spilled a bit, but it still smells and works great.
I think the butter balm is great for winter months when my face gets dry, but I'll need it really reduce the amount I use in the summer.

    Prep: warm shower
Soap: Shaving Yeti Orange Dream Cicle
    Razor: Gillette Old Type
    Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock yellow
    Brush: HIS Synthetic

I don't know if it was the brush need breaking in or I did, but I'm getting much better results now. I still can't lather Arko Ice Mint, but that goes for both my brushes so it is once again technique. I've found that I can't shake out any water from the Vie-Long in order to get a lather.

Now that I know how to use it, I'm very happy with the brush.
