Large yes, but you're also more people to pay for it. But I came to think - is the high prices including, say, an iPhone or similar? Because here the price reaches that amount ~$160-180 with payment for a phone + plan. That would explain a lot. Ahh come on - what about the video I just made?? I guess I'll just delete it then since no one wants to see it I'm not that much into what options you have, but I'm familiar with AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. If that's all you have, I can understand the high prices. Here we have at least 20 different options that all compete for every single customer. So it could easily be supply and demand as you say.
I think a large part of the cost is attributable to paying for the advertising and commissions to the salespeople. And maybe the deals on the phones.
I left Verizon after years of service, and went to the Wally World straight talk. Unlimited gigs, unlimited minutes, $40.00 month. I paid over $150.00 a month for Ver and was treated like crap. I have used my Str Tlk android in New Orleans, Florida, Indiana, Virginia, Texas , Ala. Miss. and on the road to and from and had EXCELLENT service. Much better than Ver. Proof that cell service doesnt have to cost as much per month as my truck. Now Metro pc, Cricket and others are also joining in. Soon plans will be a thing of the past. When cells first came out, I had a shoulder mounted model with a car battery and it was unbelievably expensive. I have seen it go from beepers to affordable phones. just wait 10 more years, cells will be even cheaper.
Try straight talk. Verizon robbed me for years. ST has better service, unlimited everything,$40.00. Just get your phone online, the instore selection sucks.
I had Metro PCS a few years ago. The coverage was horrible! Dropped calls, slow web surfing. Since they are now part of T-Mobile I wonder if they've improved?
That's what I heard about Metro PCS. For a long time I always thought that even though I was getting screwed by Verizon, at least I would always have coverage anywhere in the country. But now that I'm living on my own, I definitely changed my way of thinking.
I dont know about metro pc, I was just saying how new players enter the race every day, boost is huge now and I have friends who have boost and love it. Verizon even has an unlimited plan for $60.00 now. I have had excellent service with Straight Talk , very satisfied. I skype my wife when I'm offshore and its free. Some of the ports I find myself in had TEDRIBLE coverage with Verizon but I havent had a problem with ST. for FORTY. SOME ODD DOLLARS A MONTH. I for one will NEVER go back to a contract phone.
Coverage really matters where you are located. With AT&T I pay $130 and have 2 iPhones on contract. Using Metro as an example, the top tier is $60 or $120 for 2. So for $10 per month more I get better quality phones and service. Clearly YMMV. In the end. It's really highway robbery! I remember when a dime is what was need to make a call.
Actually, if it's a phone that works on their service, you can bring your old phone over to straight talk - no cost for a new phone...includes iPhones, Androids, and others. Check their website to see if your phone works.
I'd suggest checking out Republic Wireless. If you're usually in a WiFi zone you can access - their plans start at $5/mo unlimited everything WiFi only and go up to $35/mo unlimited everything on 4G. They use the Sprint network - so great for some but not so good for others. They also only offer the Moto X - I think it's $299 unlocked, no commitment.
