I finally got around to ordering some Speick. I got it yesterday and used it this morning. Why did I wait?!? My face feels great and I really like the scent. It will be a permanent resident of the Den.
While Speick has some lavender elements to it, Speick smells like nothing else that I know of, because it is derived in part from the speick plant, which has its own unique scent. It's a very herbal fragrance, if that helps at all.
The Aftershave is next on my list; I enjoyed the cream, found the soap sticks EVEN BETTER. Now I must complete my Speick collection! Well the scents are completely different, and the Speick isn't quite as dirt cheap as Arko but I wouldn't qualify its cost as expensive either. I haven't used Arko (soap) however Speick is easy to lather IMO; 20 seconds of loading and my brush had enough for 3 passes on my face and 2 on my skull with some left over.
Speick soap and cream are excellent stuff. They actually smell rather different. The soap is more herbal whereas the cream is more "fresh" and "chewinggum" like in scent, with a basenote of the actual Speick scent. The lotion and soap smell alike to me. I've decided, though my goal towards simplicity, to use up the soap and then stick with the cream-version. It's available in Germany to me for a bargain (2 euro circa) whereas the soap I have to order it online and then shipping kills it entirely if it's the only thing I need from the shop. I have the lotion also - it's excellent after shave care. Included are alum and of course the healing and nurturing Speick herb. Great stuff. Unfortunately not my signature scent so I rarely use it.
I have the AS balm and love it...just ordered some samples of the AS lotion. I know I am going to like it if it resembles the balm at all.
I'll put it this way. I enjoy both Tabac and Speick. But to me Tabac is old man smell and Speick is fresh and herbal. Arko to me reeked of citronella and had poor skin care properties. Speick gives a great lather AND smells pretty darn good (albeit scent is a very personal preference)!
Similar, but the solution in which the scent sits - cream or aftershave base - modifies the scent a small but noticeable amount to my nose.
IMHO Speick is an excellent Aftershave. I only wish the scent would last longer. I am curious about the longevity of the Cologne ????
I was in Germany last November. I kept going into stores to find it. Nobody seemed to know what it was. Finally, a sales lady realized what I wanted. She then informed me it is pronounced Spike and her grandfather always used it.
