Prep: Hot towel with L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash, home made PSO
Razor: Muhle R41 2013, Dubl Duck Goldedge straight razor
Blade: Super Max blue diamond (1)
Brush: Vie Long horse hair 23mm knot
    Soap: Tabac
    After: Home made ASB
    After Shave: Tabac after shave
    Cologne: Tabad Eau De Cologne

Tabac day! A fine 2 pass BBS shave this morning. The Tabac products never let me down. The Super Max blades came in a package some time last year. I had been meaning to try them out for a while now. The blades seem to be 2-3 steps sharper than a Derby, but not as sharp as an Astra SP. I will see how long this blase lasts in the R41.

    Have a blessed day!

    Wednesday

    Prep: CeraVe facial cleanser
    Soap: Barrister & Mann unscented
    Brush: HIS synthetic
    Razor: Gillette Tech
    Blade: Astra SP
    After: cold rinse, CeraVe lotion

The B&M soap always makes a thick creamy lather, although today I didn't add quite enough water so it was a little too thick. Three easy passes.

    Chilly perfection
I waited for the mailman to deliver the Synergy Frost_Byte before shaving today, and I'm glad I did. I have always enjoyed menthol shaves, Proraso Green was my first real cream. I prefer the performance of newer soaps like synergy, but I missed the menthol. I could hardly wait to try Frost_Byte, which made waiting for the mail that much harder. I am a very happy shaver!

I also decided to use two different brushes today, to compare my first brush - a VDH boar with my favorite, the HIS synthetic. I used feh boar, after soaking it in hot water, to lather my first toe passes. It whipped up the soap quickly and easily, and did not feel as skritchy as I remember while I face lathered. My eyes started to water right away during my first pass - this soap is certainly colder than Proraso Green! I have not tried Yeti Snot or Stirling yet, but so far Frost_Byte is the coldest for me.

My face was pretty much numb through the second pass, my eyes still watering as I applied the butter balm for my ATG pass. I was worried that I couldn't seem to feel my Old Type much - I assumed I would have all kinds of irritation when I finished. I used the HIS to lather for the last pass, and it exploded on the puck almost instantly... I loaded a little extra because of the oil, and went to it. This lather seemed extra firm and thick - almost like frosting. My razor smoothly sang its way across my face and left me with a cool BBS. I finished with Krampert's Bay Rum only because my Frostbite is still in the mail. I am looking forward to months of blissfully cold shaves.

The HIS verified my decision to switch to this synthetic. The lather building and face feel were greatly superior to the cheap boar I used. I wonder, though, if a nicer boar properly broken in would be a worthy challenger.
