Hey guys I'm wanting a silver tip badger brush but, one that I can afford. LOL. Can anybody tell me what they think of this brush. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RYU5P6/?tag=thshde-20 Thank you.
I have not heard of this product. If you are not in a hurry, I highly recommend you Google "silver tip shave brushes". A number of brands including, but not limited to Omega, Simpson, Semogue, etc are out there. Please do some research - you may be surprised to see what is available around your price range. Hope this helps.
I have looked around lol and so many of them are just a little to much for me to spend right now. Unless I have missed something this is about the cheapest I could find. I'll just keep looking though. Thank you for your response. I
Mine is shedding like crazy! Been in a cabinet for most of the last two months. That's too bad cause it lathers sooo well! I wonder if it simply had a defect. I've only had it for about 8 months. Otherwise, I own two Franks Shaving, but the quality seems to be hit and miss, greatly lacking consistency. My travel on is great! The more conventional one has a loose knot inside the handle, but it still lathers pretty good and doesn't shed much at all. They both lather really well and are uber smooth. YMMV. P.S.: other than being a little less soft, my favorite brush is my Simpson Bekerley 46 which is best badger, not silvertip. It is of the highest quality I own and always delivers!
You should contact Larry. I know him somewhat well (ie business relationship wise). I also know his policy on "shedders" (which do simply happen even in very expensive brushes-the only brush manufacturer i have NEVER heard a compliant on re: shedding is Plisson) and customer service. It is second to none. A Whipped Dog Silvertip set 10-15mm deeper than normal (which Larry will do for a whopping $5 additional) is an incredible value and a great performer. Its a shame you got a rare bum knot. You really should email or call him.
Oh I would like to stay under fifty. Looks like I can get one of these whipped dogs for thirty. Which would be nice. I'm just seeing mixed reviews. Not just on here. But then again everything has mixed reviews don't they.
Ill give you my opinion on Whipped Dog straight up. The knots are very soft. Very soft tips. The only issue is backbone. That is why you have them set 10-15 mm's deeper than normal. Then you have a beautful silvertip knot with nice soft tips and great backbone. If you happen to get a "shedder" - it will be replaced. Now most every brush loses a few bristles the first few shaves..im talking a constant shedding issue. The total would be like $35 shipped for an acrylic handle silvertip drilled extra deep. Its an amazing value. Now I know no one wants to go through having to have a brush swapped out no matter how reasonable the cost was but having used literally over 50 of his knots doing restores and personal brushes Ive had to have 2 replaced, and one was not even a silvertip. I like those odds.
Thank you all for your responses. I defiantly took everybody's recommendations into consideration. I think I have made my decision to go with the whipped dog. I'll see how I like a silver tip compared to my boar and pure badger my wife and I have. After that later on I'll get a more expensive one. Thanks again. You were all a great help. . Heres a ballon
X2 I really have not used my WD yet, but I am going to use it tomorrow. I will let you know how I like it.
+1 for your decision to go with Whipped Dog! Larry is great to work with........and if a bad knot pops up, he will make it right (very rare though). I used my 24mmx48mm WD Silvertip this morning. ($35 shipped & set to my specs)
Well it looks like I can only get the 20mm right now. It's ok I'm really just wanting to try one out anyway. Ill pair it with the marbled resin handle. And I guess have him set them a deeper. By saying backbone issues I supposes you mean they can be floppy? Thank you guys for your help. Time to go spend my money now lol.
I've no regrets getting a WD silver tip. Deep-set; black resin, a large 30mm brush with ultra soft tips and not the least bit floppy. I think you'll enjoy yours! IF by some chance you find it not to your liking, rest assured there'd be plenty of buyers on the used market.
