So these came in the mail. I have not tried them yet but they do smell amazing. I was not expecting them to be so soft. They are my first soft soaps or as some say croap =P
These two are my everyday products (menthol or non-menthol, depending on my mood). For the money, Proraso cannot be beat!
After coming upon them many times here and on online shops I really felt like there is something there. Plus the color of the red one just pulled me =P I ordered them from UK amazon, I saved about 50% of what I would have payed in Sweden=D I hope I'll like them as much as you guys, then I'll find a proraso appreciation thread or make one =P
I'm glad you can use at least one of them, because a lot of people recommend these soaps. For the moment I don't have any allergies, I hope I don't find out that I am when I use one of these
These are two of my favorites (I have the Green in the tube version). Please try the White also. I wish Proraso made the Blue in a tub. I find all of the Proraso creams and soft soaps to be fantastic. I like the tubs for face lathering (boar). Creams go to the scuttle (badger).
@Darkbulb @HolyRollah You asked for impressions or thoughts. I used the Red(sandalwood and shea butter) today, I really loved it!.. I dont know if Im fooling myself because everyone said its a good croap, but it might have been my first shave with little to no irritation. Easy to lather and I didnt need to load my brush a long time. I stopped loading my brush a bit early because I saw that it loaded the soap faster than my other harder soaps. I am new to wetshaving so I mostly used my gillette fusion (wait whuuuut?!), yes =P I do not own a DE razor yet because Im trying to learn shaving with a shavette. So I use mostly the gillette and I use my gillette on my neck because I can shave alot closer with it because I can go ATG without feeling like im shaving with a cheese grater. I did one extra pass XTG and WTG with the shavette after I was finished just to do some touch ups and practise angle and technique. What Im trying to say is that I put my face through a thorough shave and my skin feels great. This Is my first sandalwood soap and I felt like the scent was great, not overwhelming while it is on the face. And I reallt felt the difference the shea butter made, my skin did not feel "dry" after I shaved. when I was done I did what @swarden43 does and put all leftover lather on my face, just to let my skin absorb some of that the shea butter so it gets softer =) CONCLUSION: Proraso red is here to stay!
I tried the green for the first time today. I am less than impressed with the smell, I don't dislike it but it's far from what I would call pleasant. The lather was OK, the shave was OK and it left my skin kind of dry. Overall I'm kind of underwhelmed with it. I'll use it again but based off the first use, the best part is the tub it comes in!
Let us know how you like the Red. I use both from time to time. The Green mostly in the very warm months. The Red has shea butter so that may help alleviate the dryness issue. The Red is a very earthy almost dirt-like sandalwood.
On a recent trip to Milan I picked up two of the green ones in the local supermarket. 1.6 EUR pr. piece! Here in DK the best price I can find is ~10 EUR.
Im one of those WHO would have bought 10 of each hahaha! In Sweden they are 150SEK(17EUR or something)
I love the Red tub scent. Since most vendors have their own version of Sandalwood, I am not sure what Sandalwood really smells like (or is supposed to). The Red tub has the "earthy" scent to me too. I also have the Red tube version......a subtle difference in scent but good. These are two of my favorite soaps/creams.
