1. When I got back into wet-shaving, I began to develop a similar problem with burn and skin rash, hot spots, and tenderness. What I discovered is I was making too many passes over the same area and thus, inflaming the skin. In order to reduce the number of passes and still get a close, comfortable shave, I opted to begin trying more aggressive (i.e. efficient) razors with 'sharper' blades (think personna med, feathers, etc.). Fewer passes were required and the result were much better. I still achieved close shaves but without the skin inflammation or burn.
They was however a bit of a learning curve in using the newer, more aggressive razors.

  2. You may want to consider switching to a double-edge safety razor. It takes some time to learn, but once learned, is far less irritating than your Mach 3.
  3. I know it's counterintuitive but pressing the blade into your face isn't what gives you a close shave. It just causes irritation. The key to a close comfortable shave is beard reduction. Don't try to get it all at once. Knock it down a little at a time and after about 2-3 passes in different directions, most guys can have a good close and comfortable shave. That's with a DE razor of course. I know with a Mach 3 or Fusion it's difficult to shave without using pressure and if you do, you may not get a very close shave. That's what makes it hard to use those razors without getting irritation IMO.
  4. OK, so this is a bit of a learning curve because I'm not familiar with (going in order of response): Personna Meds/Feathers (are these brands, because I've never heard of them. Where would I find them?), and DE safety razors...what is the difference between DE razors and what I use? Where would I find one?

Of course there is the TSD shop for accessories as well ;)
  6. The biggest shaving problem right now is avoiding aquisition disorders.
  7. DE stands for Double Edge - an old school safety razor and still one of the finest shaving implements ever invented. Personna and Feather are brands of blades you can use in them.

Sounds like time to back up and start at the beginning. Here's a good place to start. Read through the shave school master sticky - http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/shave-school-master-sticky.16034/
  8. Most of the products we tend to use require purchasing mail-order or online, as typical local stores do not carry them.
  9. Maintaining proper razor angle on my off hand side on ATG passes. Jowl areas, beard seems to grow in all directions.
  10. So, I posted a few days ago post shave, and one of the pieces of advice given for my razor burn was basically "let that clear up before you shave again". Below is what happens if I don't shave every 2-3 days....welping and irritation. Any advice?

  11. I think that's actually starting to look better than it did. It takes a while for all those red spots to go away. I know it did for me at least. If you're going to shave soon, the trick is to do it without causing new irritation and everything will continue to heal and those red spots will continue to get better. Don't be surprised if they take a couple more weeks to disappear.
  12. So don't shave at all for a couple of weeks?
  13. Word! hahaha
  14. Maybe use electric razor to give the skin a chance to rest for a while from sharp blades running over it repeadetly or maybe buy a cream or scrub that helps the skin cells to reproduce =)
  15. I thought you were our friend! :taunt002:
  16. Hahaha you are taking it out of context of course it's gonna look bad :prrr: But he is having some issues with his skin. I believe his skin needs some "vacation" from the sharp razor blades :happy069:
  17. a half-dollar size spot on the right side of my neck.
  18. Yes, that is my bad spot too. Seems the lift and stretch works OK, but not compared to the rest.
  19. Shaving under my jaw and lower neck to bbs without razor burn
  20. From my Adam's apple to my chin. I can shave against the grain with no problem, but I just can't get a smooth shave. It's the one place keeping me from BBS most mornings.
