I am new to wet shaving and I have really enjoyed making my own brushes

I have been hand carving my own brushes from cypress wood and found some very exotic color patterns. It is not as hard as you may think to make your own brush without a lathe.

Nice hunks of wood! One suggestion, looks like you are using too much epoxy. You only need to spread a very thin layer on the sides of the hole to protect the wood, then just glue the bottom of the knot. I did the same thing with my first brush handles.

Thanks and I know you are correct I drilled the holes with a wood but and not a forrester bit so the hole is not always perfect to I made up the difference with epoxy. I did discover that using gorilla epoxy if you put paint thinner in the glue it will dissolve and you can reuse the hair knot without ruining it. Thanks for the tip I am enjoying meeting new people with the same hobby

Very nice indeed. You indicated you don't need a lathe, so how did you make them? Did you whittle them.

i cut the branch with a chain saw and then I use a chisel to get to the heart wood then I carve my design, sometimes I cheat and use a dremmel to create a collar (carving takes a long time to do that) then the rest is sanding. I will make a post with pictures step by step how to make them. I just started 1 month ago and learned from trial and error. They really are not hard to make but you HAVE TO HAVE a small hand sander to save your hands
