FYI.... I was contacted April 6 by a client who had a razor stolen (and other possessions and a police report was filed). Feeling the razor would never be seen again he asked to be put on the list for another razor. Fast forward to this week... I received a FB message from a lady who just so happened to have bought a box of "stuff" at a garage sale that happened to have a Brian Brown Custom Razor (complete with original box). Thinking the unimaginable just happened, I confirmed the razor was in fact the stolen razor. I assumed after making her aware of the situation all would be well and she would reunite the razor to the owner. As it turns out, she ceased contact with me after receiving the info. I, in turn, gave the info I had to my client, who turned it over to the police. They contacted her and she claims she knows nothing about this razor. If it should pop up on eBay US or Canada for sale OR locally for sale in Victoria, BC, be aware it is stolen and a police report has been file with the info. Thanks, Brian
This is really horrible. If she really "purchased" a box at a garage sale and realized it was someone elses property she sould have returned it. Unfortunatly I can see where this is going. You probably spoke to the thief. If I see this razor I will make sure this razor is returned to the proper owner.
I hope she this gent gets his razor back. Wonder where this woman is located? It would make it easier to see her if she pops up on e bay And I agree if she did genuinely buy it and then find out it was stolen she should return it instead of continuing to try and profit from it. Some people.....
Yeah....I try not to hate people but I can't really stand a damn thief. Hope the guy gets his razor back and that the thief sees the error in their ways.
"If it should pop up on eBay US or Canada for sale OR locally for sale in Victoria, BC" I'm 99% sure it in or around this area.
Unless the individual was skilled or the police are lazy and don't care u can view the email headers and the police can verify the IP origin inside; and request user statistics of who had that lease of the given time from the owner supplying the IP block and get their info from the ISP. Most isps are cooperative with that if not an inditement would settle it. However its not grounds for a conviction but enough for probable cause for investigation.
She probably knows it is stolen, or even is the thief, judging by her behavior. But I don't know If I had legitimately paid for something I didn't know was stolen I'd hate to have to be had out of my money. I saw a report a couple of years ago where car thieves where changing VIN numbers with junk cars and then selling the good stolen cars. This one lady they interviewed had her car (that was stolen) that she paid thousands for get taken by the cops years later. She was never compensated. Just found it:
That's how its always been, fault in the system. The insurance should cover it. Often it does just depends.
That's actually a good reason for pulling a CARFAX report anytime you want to buy a car. I'm surprised the thief (as she appears to be) had the wherewithall to realize that the razor was worth something (I think the average Joe wouldn't necessarily know that) and furthermore knew how to find someone who could accurately help with doing something with it. That's one thing about having hobbies that aren't mainstream, usually there is a certain safety that nobody knows how much you had to pay to get your oddball stuff. What this lady didn't seem to get is that the wet shaving community is still a pretty small community, so word of the theft outpaced her. Too bad she has so far eluded capture. I hope the cops can catch her.
Call me stupid.. but I think she was honest when she first contacted me. I believe she did buy it in a box of stuff. I just think when she found out what she had her greed to over. Both the police and the owner have contacted her and she claims she knows nothing about the razor. Shes claiming her FB page was hacked and someone else sent the FB messages....
Under the setting pane of FB you can review a log of all IP's and connected locations that have signed into the account. She needs to now show proof at the time and date of the message the login credentials were indeed ambiguous to her current pattern.
I wouldn't call you that, but I don't believe her based off what you've described. She sounds either like the thief, or the thief's fence. Either way, I think she's involved more than just an innocent victim. I could just be cynical, having been burglarized a couple times at different places, but the refusing to cooperate is telling IMHO.
I would tend to agree had the message been "different". If there would have been a question of "what's it worth" or "what can you tell me about this"... you know a short and to the point message. But the message was anything but.. It was well over 100 lines of text in 8 different messages and not once was there a question of "what's it worth". It came across as a person that was truly excited about an unexpected find in a $4 box of goods. Needless to say it's a bit crazy all the way around.
Local news stations love stories like this for their "investigate reporting" sections. May well be worth contacting few with the details. Nothing like the possibility of a public shaming to make people do the right thing.
