Im a newbie to single blade shaving. I have been shaving now for a little over a month and enjoying the experience. I didnt realize how great single blade shaving was until this past weekend. I was on vacation and brought a cartridge razor that I had not thrown away yet. Needless to say, using that cartridge razor hurt! I felt the pulling and tugging like never before.

Going forward, Im a single blade only guy. Any tips for traveling?

Congrats my friend! Maybe a smaller travel razor or 3-pc razor that breaks down. Get a travel brush and a dopp kitt and small sized bottles of preshave, aftershave, etc.

WARNING,WARNING, DANGER. RAD/SAD just around the corner. There is no turning back. Make lots of space for razors, brushes, soaps, creams, aftershaves, etc., etc., etc.

For airline travel with only a carry-on, the Bic Sensitive disposable works. If I'm checking a bag or driving, I just take a 3-piece razor (broken down), a shave stick, a small brush, and a leakproof bottle of after shave.

Now, now, you know as well as I do that it is easy to avoid RAD/SAD just by repeating "We are saving money"

Travel razors are kind of fun and all, but you really don't need one if you're thinking about size/weight. If you're just thinking a travel razor would be cool, there's a seller on Ebay doing New Old Stock Gillette Travel Techs for like $13.99 I think, free shipping. No case. There are plenty of other vintage choices out there too. I'm looking and debating, myself. Don't need, but do want.

Welcome. I've been shaving with a DE for 3 weeks, but have yet to try going back to a cartridge for comparison sake.

I made that mistake. I left my DE razor at the house by accident and was out of town for three days. I had evrything else but the razor. So I bought a three pack of the Mach 3 disposables. I got irritation on my neck and a nasty ingrown hair. Don't miss it and won't go back!

For travel I use a 3-piece DE EJ, and made a travel case from an Altoid tin.

If you are travelling by plane, take a shave stick instead of shaving cream. The shave stick, being a solid, is not subject to the same restrictions as liquids or gels. Shaving creams fall under the liquids/gels category, and must be in a clear 1 quart ziplock bag, and the quantity of shaving cream is also limited. The 1 quart plastic bag must be removed from the carry=on luggage when you go through the TSA checkpoint. Rather than deal with all that nonsense, I just checked in the luggage. It is a lot easier just to use a shave stick instead.

Another useful item is a razor case. If you go to Amazon and search for 'razor travel case' you will find a number of plastic and leather models that should do quite nicely. Make sure that they can hold a safety razor, as some models are made for smaller cartridge razors.

If you are not sure if you can buy safety blades at your destination, pack double-edge blades and check your baggage. Razor blades other than cartridges are not allowed in carry-on luggage. That is because one can overpower 300 people, slice through the metal cockpit door and hijack an airliner with a single safety razor blade, but not with a 5-blade cartridge. If you can buy safety razor blades at your destination, then you are good to go. Safety razors sans blades can be packed in carry-on luggage.

There are some great travel brushes, as well. I use a little Omega 50014 travel brush, and it works very well for both soaps and cream, including face lathering. I paid $12 at Shoebox Shaveshop for mine, but they are now on sale for $9.99, That is a great bargain for a very nice brush.

Just my 2 cents based on my experiences being shipped all over creation and travelling with a safety razor.

Judging by all the blood, I wuld say he shaved with a multiblade cartridge. He seems to be in shock, so he must have used goo in a can, as well. Somebody please send the Beibmeister a safety razor and good cream or soap. The poor dude is safety razor deprived and probably doesn't even know it.

Merkur bakelite razor. (the red & black one - pack it in a sturdy box. NOT the one it comes in...)
Palmolive classic crème (if driving) or Tabac shave stick. (if flying)
Omega 10066 brush. (make a travel container from a prescription pill bottle)

    Blades..... ugh.
Put them in your checked bag.
    or
    purchase them at your destination.
    or
Send them to yourself @ your hotel via UPS, USPS, or FedEx.
