I know I stated I will face lather from now on but ..... Does anyone else find Face lathering is better suited for soaps and Bowl/Mugs , etc., are better for Creams? I find it so but as we always say YMMV.
I just face lather. When I do creams, I just smear a dollop on my face and start lathering. It saves time and feels good, too.
I noticed this is what Mr.Freedburg does. I might try this next time but I feel it is easier with a cream in a bowl. Do you feel it is easier this way than loading directly to your brush?
Never tried face lathering. I grew up watching my gramps bowl lather so it never really occurred to me to face lather i guess lol I may try it for kicks...
Face blathering is warmer, unless you heat your mug or bowl. You do get more lather out of the brush by whipping in a bowl or mug. Both with soap, cremas, and tube creams.
When using soaps, I face lather. When using creams, I bowl lather. When using my scuttle, I'll use soaps or creams.
Soap: mostly bowl-lather Soap with boar: mostly face-lather Soap with badger: mostly bowl-lather Soap with synthetic: mostly bowl-lather Soap with boar and scuttle: mostly bowl-lather Soap with badger and scuttle: mostly bowl-lather Soap with synthetic and scuttle: mostly bowl-lather Cream: mostly face-lather Cream with boar: mostly face-lather Cream with badger: mostly face-lather Cream with synthetic: mostly face-lather Cream with boar and scuttle: mostly bowl-lather Cream with badger and scuttle: mostly bowl-lather Cream with synthetic and scuttle: mostly bowl-lather Soap and Cream combo: mostly bowl-lather That about covers it…mostly. Simple, no?
My problem with face lathering is that I like to use uber-lather and haven't figured out to do it face lathering. I have used a combo of cream and soap while face lathering, but haven't figured out how to make an uber while face lathering..
Started out being a 100% face latherer. Nowadays I lather in scuttle on the weekends and face lather on the weekdays.
I plan on trying this eventually. I would imagine you would load some soap onto the brush, then add a little cream to the brush. Nick Shaves on youtube has a video trying this out.
With soaps, I just lather in the mug. With creams, I face lather. That is regardless of the brush being used. For me, shaving is not a hobby at all, but an enjoyable necessity. I therefore like to keep my shaves uncomplicated. Since face and mug lathering work well with both boar and badger brushes, I have never had any need to use a lathering bowl. Some others experience things differently, else lathering bowls would not exist.
I started out bowl lathering using boars with hard soaps. However, after reading good threads on face lathering I gave this a try and now face lather exclusively using my boars with hard and soft soaps. Boy, does it feel good. I use a brush scuttle to keep the lather warm between passes. However, with my creams, I use my badgers with a scuttle. The only exception with the badgers is the Barbear Classico Texugo. This little guy was made for face lathering with soft soaps such as Proraso Red and White, ABCBA, and Strop Shoppe. Again, with the Texugo, I use a brush scuttle for warm lather. I have not tried face lathering with badgers/creams since I love my scuttles. Guess I should give it a try. I have said it before and will say it again...the cool thing about this hobby is that nothing is wrong/nothing is right. We can use the razor/blade/soap (hard/soft/cream) that suits us best and then share with others so they can give it a try if they want to.
