Today marks our 31st wedding anniversary so my wife and I are spending part of it playing 'walking tourists' through the quaint little town of Calistoga. Beautiful day so far... I may check out the local antique shops. One can taste only so much wine....
Just bought "The Big Jewish Music Box" mp3 album on Amazon for 99 cents. 204 tracks of awesome. Though my grandfather was not Jewish by faith, he was by blood. I've always felt a certain kinship to this music.
About 15-20 miles W of me, in the last half hour. No one hurt that they've heard of, but did have to help some people out of a house, possibly the one pictured. It's just north of Xenia...if you don't know about this area's tornado magnet reputation, google Xenia 1974.

The phone guy is coming to my house this afternoon! I've been staring at the fibre box on the outside of my house for about 2 months now. He's coming in to "refurbish" the inside lines. I hope that means what I think it means.
Kinda excited...more flashlight news. Recently found my old Maglite Solitaire... If any of you have one, you know not to have any lights on, not even the standby indicator on a TV in the dark, or you'll never see the light it emits. Sooo.... extracted the LED from an old pen light, purchased a pair of MN21/23 batteries, dissected said battery to obtain the eight LR932 button cells (much cheaper than buying said cells individually), taped three of them together, found a small bolt of appropriate size, and voila, instant upgrade. Still not great, but much better
I stopped by several antique stores in the Calistoga area—none of which had much of anything in the way of shaving goods. One nice lady sai she just sold two ..."German straight razors and a strap to a gentleman yesterday who collects them." She asked for my email and would contact me if she comes across any in the future. She apologized (no reason to, I stated) and she gave me a dozen packs of Wilkinson DE blades (new in package) she had. We wound up buying a box full of apothecary jars and the like from her. A fun day.
I hope today is not as long as yesterday. Hardly slept at all Saturday night, think I had a fever (not enough cowbell, I guess), tried to sleep it off on Sunday, but got a call from a friend with symptoms of a heart attack. Spent the second half of the day dealing with that. Hospital emergency rooms are just as much fun as I remember.
I hoe your friend is doing OK. I spent today outside at the NYC Energy fair, with 12 of my students. They were demonstrating their pizza-box solar ovens.
I continue to be amazed by those who advance in our world. Managing the wonderful thing someone else built does not make you successful; it simply makes you a manager.
