Mark, I store my MWF in a wooden bowl with top. I'm using the fat every other day now. Had I tried MWF first my soap levels would be much smaller..
Just used it for the first time. One word sums it up- amazing. It blows every soap I've ever used out of the water in all categories. Performance- it actually topped Arko. The cushion is off the charts leading to a very comfortable shave. Even the airy lather you see overflowing out the sides of the bowl had tons of cushion and slickness. Something that can not be said of Arko. This is the picture of when I finished loading. The overflowing lather caught me by surprise. With just the soap you see there on the brush it was enough for three passes face lathered. I did not return to the puck. Other than soaking the puck in its own bowl I used no fancy tricks. Now here is the brush after the face lather. Note that even after the 3 passes the lather that overflowed on the bowl remained in tact. My face I am not easily impressed but this is a soap that has throughly impressed me. It was supremely easy to lather, the best cushion, stability, and moisturization of any soap I've used. Since every soap I've used so far was lacking in some department or another I never thought I could have it all. I felt like I could just shave for hours with this soap. Supremely comfortable. The scent I also enjoyed. I detest strongly scented soaps- they typically smell like cheap perfume and burn my skin up. Mitchell's on the other hand has a light pleasant scent reminiscent of soap and flowers. At the end of my shave my cheeks felt like my 8 year old brother's cheeks (I'm 23 so I can't guarantee those results for some of you geezers). I can well see this soap's potential to make all my other soaps obsolete. I only wish I had tried this before. I admit some of what prevented me from using it was its reputation for being hard to lather (especially considering my moderately hard water) but i've learned reputation and cost does not correlate to how good a soap is.
Chuck, you have discovered my first and one of my favorite soaps. I too found it easy to lather, the cushioning and glide top notch. Glad you're enjoy ing it. It is a true bargain at the price.
There are no doubts about it - the MWF is a magnificent soap but it hates my guts. Every time I've used it, it irritated my face and neck horribly.
I don't know, because Musgo Real is also a lanolin item and it never did that to me........strange, huh?
Will from Barrister & Mann has a similar reaction to MWF, but has no problem with lanolin and puts it in his own soaps. He concluded it was something about the fragrance that he's sensitive to.
As much as I want to like Musgo, it irritates my skin something fierce! I have most of the tube left. I try it every now and then, but I still get the same results. Plus, vetiver is not a favorite sent of mine. Deffo a bad purchase for me.
Maybe you were a sheep or a sheepherder in a previous life? I'd sympathize with you, but without the menthol you wouldn't enjoy it anyway.
