It was 86 degrees on our second floor. My face will not feel any hot water until fall. Decent shave, but I should have avoided the AS. I love the alcohol-based AS's, but they increase my irritation.

Brush: Oscar11 custom with HIS knot

The PPF lathered up easily and I had a pleasant three pass shave. Very comfortable and smooth.

I am now convinced I can use synthetics and horse hair brushes and fully enjoy them. If the day ever comes to pass wherein badger and boar are no longer produced, I know I can make great lather with brushes from sustainable sources.

The Tabac Soap never fails to produce outstanding lather! Fortunately, my wife and I love the scent. Have a great Wednesday my fellow wetshavers!

  9. Odin's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Cleaning Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Beeline Boar
    Soap: Ginger's Garden Grapefruit Mint
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Perma-Sharp Super (2)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, (4, 5)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS
    Cologne: Wild Tobacco by Illuminum

Perhaps it was better lather from the Ginger's Garden soap than the Godrej cream (and it was better, despite a lesser quality brush), perhaps it was that I didn't have an extra day's worth of stubble to mow down (and it was easier), or perhaps the Perma-Sharp Super is truly the first DE blade I've used that - for my sensibilities - would benefit from hand-stropping before use, but today's shave was definitely better than yesterday's. Two passes brought me as close to BBS as I can reasonably expect with 2 passes, with no irritation at all. I even managed to splash only a reasonable amount of the AV today, rather than trying to freshen up my sink's basin with it.

    Strop: Poor Man Strop
    Stropper: Larson Sure Edge
    Brush: Muhle Black Fiber
Lather: Tiki + Proraso red tube
    Post: Aqua Velva sample

Not a good shave. This time a veggie soap outperformed a tallow soap :scared011: I had like a 3 day growth and the Junior struggled. The ER 1924 is the only one I'd regularly use for such a job and it's the one I should have used from the start. I also started with the wrong soap- Tiki. When I felt the massive tugging I switched to Proraso red. It is formulated specifically for tough beards and is easily the most beard softening product I have. The blade cut through butter.

I used Aqua Velva for the first time. It is very soothing but does smell it a bit old-manish.

BEWARE of stainless steel.... I noticed the tub of Tiki rusting at the bottom. I've experienced rusty stainless blades too when left in the shower. Just be careful with those pricy stainless steel razors.

Second day using MWF. My first shave with it was great, but this shave? Loads of incredible slickness. Slicker than boar snot on a rock in hot summer. Made me wish I had grabbed a straight instead. And I got gobbs of lather from about 20 seconds work on the puck. Moved that to a bowl and it was on! Can't wait for tomorrow (yeah, I'm using the fat again). Want to use this soap for 4 or 5 days and really dial it in before I move back to my normal rotation.
    Have a great shave, everyone.

  16. Stuart, my brother-in-law drives me crazy. He doesn't know scents from a hole in the ground. He thinks Tabac has a lemony scent and once when I was wearing Monsieur de Balmain he said to me "Jeff, since when do you wear Tabac?" I told him "You shmuck, Tabac doesn't smell like this!" He insisted that it did and when I showed him the Monsieur de Balmain he was completely shocked! :happy102:

This was my first shave with the MFW, and it did not disappoint. I face lathered the MFW with my Semogue 1305 boar brush. I did two passes and touchups with my Gillette fatboy and Derby Extra blade. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After the cold water rinse, I finished it off with Thayers Cucumber WH and Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
