Something has been missing from my shaves this week, I didn't find it today. The shave itself was not bad, but it could have been better.

I'm breaking in a new boar that I'll rehandle sometime in the future. Nice shave this morning. I enjoyed the Vergulde Hand but will wait a few shaves to comment. True confessions, I went on another soap buying binge. Have a good one.

    Pre: Shave Secret
    Brush: VDH Boar
    Soap: VDH Classic
    Razor: Gillette Super Speed
    Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
    Splash: n/a
Post: Aubrey Organics City Rhythms AS Balm
After: Pinaud Clubman Classic After Shave Lotion

The Astra SP is a smooth blade! I think the Personna Red may have a competitor for my number one slot! Super close shave, no issues at all. Just slide over the dome with ease. Even thought the lather was less than stellar today. I think my experience with the VDH has been tainted by all of the awesome creams I have been using. That or I may be out of practice lathering a puck. Wasn’t horrible but definitely not as good as I remembered the VDH to be. I’ve decided I don’t really like the Aubrey Organics balm. I think I mentioned that in a previous post. Well today confirmed it. Don’t know if I’m going to finish it.

By the way, the smoke pictured is an Asylum Schizo 50×6. A very smooth, mild to medium smoke with woody, leather, and cedar flavors. I dabble in cigars occasionally also. Usually about once every couple weeks or so I’ll get the urge..

    Stop by That Shave Life!

    Soap: HTGAM, unscented
Brush: Oscar11 custom with HIS synthetic knot
    Razor: iKon ShaveCraft 101
    Blade: Feather
    After: Cold rinse, CeraVe lotion

Three passes, very smooth results. This big brush makes a mountain of lather from the HTGAM soap.

    Prep: Gaia face scrub
    Oil: Shave Secret
Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep
Razor: slim adjustable set to 5
    Blade: Feather
    soap:

    Sampsons All Natural Shaving Soap
    with a smidgen of
Gaia Mint shaving cream (for a touch of mint)

    Post: Alum sprayed on
    Witch Hazel: Generic unscented
    AS: Sampsons all natural

The Sampsons mixed with Gaia made a slick and slightly minty lather (I am not big on freezing my face off with menthol). I like sampsons because it makes my face feel clean after I use it. this was a 3 pass shave - very nice.

    A tale of two shaves
This felt like two shaves because my cheeks feel amazing, but my neck is rough with a bit of irritation and a couple small weepers. I realized after the shave that this was the fourth day on the same Personna blade... I usually pitch a blade after three days, so it's my fault. I used Frost_Byte lotion to put out the fire. The Lather Monster did it's job well, and the soap felt and smelt superb. I could detect the bourbon and oak-vanilla more this time, mixing well with the chocolate. I love how the scent of Synergy matures and subtly changes.

    Prep: RR/HTGAM lime menthol
    Soap: HTGAM Synergy Chocolate Bourbon
    Brush: HIS Lather Monster
    Razor: iKon ShaveCraft 101
    Blade: Personna Lab Blue (4)
AS: Fine Platinum, HTGAM Frost_Byte lotion

Soap: Strop Shoppe Baker Street - I like this soap so much I ordered the Teakwood.
Brush: Semogue 830 - Nice brush; beautiful red handle; blooming with 3 shaves; same knot as 1305; great face latherer.
Blade: Ladas - I like this blade; sharp; comfortable shaves.
Razor: 1958 Gillette TV Cavalcade of Sports SS - This guy is in pristine condition; no brassing or pitting; few very minor scratches.
Brush Scuttle - Norm Pottersong; toasty warm lather for a two pass and touch-up.

    A great shave on 6/19/14 :happy093:

    Frey's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: Ginger's Garden Jasmine Tobacco
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Perma-Sharp Super (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (6, 7)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Pinaud Clubman
Cologne: The Third Man by Caron

I skipped a day's shaving, skipped the face-wash, and used a previously untested blade (for me) on its 3rd day. . . sounds like a recipe for trouble. All things considered, it wasn't that bad, though. The lather was predictably outstanding, and the blade itself - while tugging notably more than previously - was not uncomfortable. I did manage some irritation on my upper lip, probably from a technique issue. All in all, a DFS shave for this blade's third and final day. On to the FaTip test tomorrow.

    Prep: No.7 Face Wash
    Razor: Gillette Sheraton
    Blade: Astra SP
Brush: Made Rite Chopped Finest Badger
    Lather: Omega Croap
    Post: Maggard Razors Alum
    Aftershave: Barbasol Pacific Rush
Cologne: Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses

Something about this shave was off... everything about this shave was off. The blade may have been a dud or the Omega just isn't how I remembered it. I had a great lather, but it didn't have any slickness. The alum didn't leave any feedback, so I guess that's a good sign. A mediocre shave at best. Happy Friday folks!
