How do you like the Tiki? I'm looking at getting some when my current stash runs down. The Feather is my go to blade so far. Very nice kit. Did you make the brush?

I like the Tiki soap very much. There are so many excellent artisan soaps available now, and the Tiki is one of the best I have used. It is a soft white soap that makes a creamy, slippery lather.

The brush is my favorite. It is a custom made by Oscar11. I sent him a stock HIS brush, he extracted the knot and mounted it in this wonderful handle that he made.

    Prep: hot shower
Razor: G. Wostenholm & Son "CANUCK"
    Brush: Vie-Long
    Cream: Proraso Blue
    Passes: 2 (WTG, XTG)
    Post: alum

Same setup as yesterdays SOTD I didn't get around to posting... The shave wasn't as good as yesterdays, but that might have been my best straight razor shave ever so it's OK

Had a fair bit of skipping and tugging today, I was pretty quick with my stropping last night. I'm not sure if there is any relationship there but I'll do a better job of stropping before my next shave with the Canuck. Still a nice DFS result on my face and SAS on my neck after two passes. I'm not going to be asking for anything more then that on a Sunday.

Tried the Petal Pusher's Dandy Candy moustache wax today... I'll give it a few more goes before passing judgement.

Brush: Chopped Made Rite Finest Badger
    Lather: C.O. Bigelow
    Post: Maggard Razors Alum
    Aftershave: Barbasol Pacific Rush

I'm so happy I have been able to shave for three days in a row now. :p It was a nice cool shave with the C.O and the follow-up with the Pacific Rush. I had a couple of places that made the alum sing but it was a great shave. Damn, I love this brush! It might just get a name.... :D

Great shave kit Guy! How do you like that Loeffler "Our Drummer"? Does it have the salesman on the shank? Those are excellent shaving razors IMHO! :happy088:

It's going to be a hot one today so, going for the cool of the menthol. I was surprised at the amount of menthol that the Gold Bond Lotion has in it. Even when I use products without menthol after I apply the Gold Bond Lotion I feel a very strong menthol effect; great stuff for keeping the skin moisturized as well. Have a great weekend Gentlemen! :happy005:

Yes it has the salesman on the Tang and provides a great shave, though admittedly today makes a bakers dozen shaves with straight but close enough shave this morning that only a single pass needed on face & neck, chin area totally different story as I continue to work with different angles of attack and required 3 passes. The Vie-Long Pro is their new #2 Extra Hair version and today was first time use after defunking the brush. Stiff at first then softened up nicely. IMHO Vie-Long horse hair is mane & tail above the Turkish brushes but then again we are comparing a $5 brush to $20-$30 brushes from VL.

Pre: Hot Towel and homemade proraso pre/post cream
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89 loaded with a Astra Superior Premium Platinum blade
    Soap: Arko shave stick
Post: Cold rinse, alum block, Clubman original followed with a little clubman finest talc

Pretty dang good shave this morning. Third shave with this Astra blade and still bbs. I always do a three pass shave and the blade usually performs great up to 4-5 days. I've recently got some new soaps, but am still amazed at the performance that I get from the good ol Arko shave sticks. You absolutely can't beat it at that price either.

The Vie-Long Pro #2 Extra Hair version is a cool looking brush! I think when (notice I said "when" not "if" lol) I go horse it is right there in the running with the Red & White acrylic based model. I like the acrylic handled brushes (no worries about getting them wet) but, those wood and steel handled models are really cool looking!

I see you've been able to put the can down and go to a soap. Is your technique getting better?

Two shaves today. One for yours truly this morning and one for my good friend who I shaved this past Thursday for the first time.

    Sunday: Me
hot shower w/Pinaud Clubman scented body wash
    Maggard Cherry Sandalwood Vanilla PSO
    Robeson straight 2 passes
    PAL Adjustable (L) 2 passes
    Schick (3)
    Donut brush
Portus Cale Citrus, Cedar, & Amber soap in a warm bowl
    Thayers unscented w/aloe
    Pinaud Clubman AS

I think I've compromised the edge on this straight razor possibly through poor stropping technique. It's very tuggy on the first pass so I think I need to put it in the hands of a pro to get the edge back. On a much more positive note though, I got the best passes I've ever gotten from my PAL Adjustable so I'm thinking I might finally have the hang of this razor.
The Donut brush. Last night I cleaned and sanitized three different brushes I've picked up while scavenging, this being one of them. It's kinda weird to hang on to but other than that it worked pretty good until I was drying it off and the knot came out so this afternoon after it had dried I glued it back in.
The Portus Cale. A good soap. Out of habit I put hot water on top of it while I showered but that was unnecessary as it's a bit soft naturally so my lather was somewhat on the wet side. It performed quite well and the scent is good but mild.

    Shave number two:

Sunday: My Good Friend of Many Years
    Two hot towels
    Homemade PSO
    Gillette Mach III 2 passes
    Gillette Mach III (2)
    VDH boar
GFT Spanish Leather cream in a warm bowl
    Thayers unscented w/aloe
    Stetson Cooling Moisture AS
    English Leather Black cologne

This one smelled so good I wished I was the recipient.
After shaving my friend for the first time Thursday I noted how different it was to have to manually stretch someone else's skin for much of the shave since when I shave myself it's more about making faces. Today I realized I was shaving with absolutely no tactile feedback and how much that determines my angle, speed, and stroke when shaving myself. I've definitely gained much respect for barbers and the ability to shave someone without the same sensory perception you get on your own face. My own hesitations and shortcomings aside, we did good. A couple of other guys were there to lend a hand by holding the bowl of water and bowl of shave cream to keep me from spilling things on the bed and I was able to stand behind the head of the bed and lean over rather than trying to do it from the side as I did the other day. We talked of shaving, race car driving, and all things manly.
