Injector & SE Party !!!

new addition to the family.

 

I had two se razors. another caught my eye. I ordered and received it. it's a nice razor, pure quality, in workmanship.
I bought cvs, persona blades. I removed the blade from the razor each day, dried it. left it out to sit on the soap dish(dry).
two shaves went well, the third failed.
I realize my mileage may vary, but two shaves?
anyone else have similar results. or was that a dud blade?
it was the first se blade I've used. feather blades last two slaves for me, the third always is bad.
I got a bunch of nos durex blades. they were one and done, also.

 

How ironic that the day before you posted this, the handle of my new-to-me Schick Injector crumbled. I had forgotten about the threads on replacing crumbled handles, but they must have been lurking in my subconscious!

Rather than turning a replacement on a lathe, I cut this handle rather willy-nilly from a piece of scrap maple. It looks a little odd, isn't quite symmetric, but really fits my hand! The handle is long and not heavy. It actually keeps the pressure off but gives great control. Who'da thunk?

My third shave from my first injector with new Schick blades was really nice (first two shaves were a prototype handle - also good)! I like the "sports car" feel of driving an injector!

 

you're using the carbon steel blades- I only use them once and throw them away. They rust very easily. you need the stainless steel blades such as these: http://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html

You can get at least 7 shaves out of those. I think the stainless are much better anyways.

Yes I'm in USA. Depends about $4-6. I've ordered from them several times takes about 7 days to get here from UK.

 

Doesn't need to be symmetric, it simply needs to fit your hand with a good grip, and that looks like it fits the bill. Well done!

I notice that my fingers naturally stop just in front of the bulge at the end of the handle - very confy, too! This means my hand and any resulting pressure (accidental or not! ) stay way off of my face. It's got me wondering about long, bulgy-ended handles in general! I've got a crazy vision of a little threaded insert and a series of long bulgy handle shapes to try on different DE heads!... but that's a different thread!

Fourth shave from a Schick blade, which beats my "standard" three from a DE. Still pretty good all-around, but I'm thinking the blade may be a little "scrapey**." I've ordered some Personna injector blades.

** scrapey - I don't know that I've encountered a "scrapey" blade before. It doesn't really tug at the hairs, but seems to somehow abrade my skin a little. I'm thinking a sharper blade, maybe?

Speaking of sharper injector blades... has anyone actually put one of these Feathers in a Schick injector? Bull Goose says it fits the Cobra Classic, but an Amazon reviewer says "Beware of this product. This is not for the standard Schick injector-type razor. It will not fit because it is too wide and too long." Uh... I don't own a Cobra, so...

Anyone successfully used these in a Schick injector? I sure would like to try, but rather avoid a mistake!


EDIT: Found this advice on the web for cutting down a Feather Pro Guard blade:
I just lay one of the Schick Injector "sized" blades out against the Feather ones, then I get two pairs of pliers, small ones at that, or better yet, needle nose pliers and snap them in two. ... You can use the key (the bank that holds the new blades) to open the razor, push the old blade out, CAREFULLY, then insert the new blade with your needle nose pliers, CAREFULLY, and position it with a toothpick (or some other thin and dull, easily obtainable and discardable object), CAREFULLY.

The key word here is CAREFULLY.

 

Too long for the injector. And I am gonna make a handle similar to yours.

 

I find the Little Lather Catcher with a new Carbon Steel GEM blade absolutely ROCKS !!!!

 

Ah yes....Sir Grapefellow....a blast from the past....I remember that razor well, those were good times...I miss the Stingster.

 

Well one shave with an OCCM and one with a Gem 1912, you guys have ruined DE's for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't complain though I'm finding the styling to be beautiful, the blades cheaper and long lasting and there's no dialing in the angle of the razor they just seem to shave so smoothly no matter what. I also love the fact that both of mine have some fantastic audible feedback, every stroke the razor sings.

Was that info you found for just using up leftover proguard blades? I can't imagine someone wanting to buy packs of them and clip them all down when you can simply buy new injector blades and have zero work...

There was some chatter a few years ago that the Feather blades where sharper than the Schick and Personna injector blades so some guys where trimming them down and using them in injector razors. The trimmed Feather blades can be loaded into a dispenser and injected just like the regular injector blades.

 

Seems like way too much work for me, but then again if you're absolutely wanting feather blades I guess no one can blame someone at all. Loving the SE side though Now I just need a bullet tip, 1912 with the art deco handle and possibly a Damaskeene and I'm good! lol All joking aside I could probably be happy with just one of these gorgeous guys but they're so much cheaper than collecting vintage DE's...

 

I agree, it does seem to be more trouble than it's worth, but apparently the Feather blade is pretty sharp.I guess if I had some laying around I might give it a whirl, but I wouldn't buy any just to cut down to use in injectors. I have cut down DE blades a couple times to use in SE's, so it may not be that much more work.

So I've discovered something thus far:

Gem stainless steel blades are wonderful. Haven't tried the carbon PAL blades yet but I'm sure they won't disappoint. However, I did snag a pack of the American Safety Razor blades (From the 100 packs you see all over the place) that are stamped 009 RD; it seems as though some guys have been using them quite successfully but I found 3 of the blades absolutely terrible when compared with the GEM branded ones. I'm guessing that there are 009RD ones that are for shaving and lower grade that are delegated to paint scraper status...

 

Just jumping in for a sec, does anyone make a se sampler? I have a gem G Bar coming and need some blades. I think I have a couple Pella's from TSD shop. I know I need to look at the Gem stainless, others?
