A generous gift

    My mother in law just handed her grandfathers straight razor over to me. I am, of course, honored and also very curious to know more about it.

    It seems to be in pretty good shape, but it will probably need a professional to get the blade shave ready.

    What can you tell me about this razor?

    It's a Henckles so its an excellent shaver. Here is the dates of production:
    JA HENCKELSSolingen, Germany
    at least ca. 1731 - present

    It has a little tarnish but will hone up nicely.

    I do not know anything about Straight but yeah, that is a J.A.Henckels. A Very good cutlery Company out of Germany.

    It is hard not to, I wish I had one of the razors that belonged to any of my Grandfathers. Whether it was an Injector, SE or DE. I would prefer a DE or SE though.

    I hate to have to tell you that I actually also got her fathers DE (3 piece). I will post a picture of it in the DE forums - I have no idea what make it is, but most likely a 30's or 40's Eastern European make.
