Interesting. I was talking to my wifey about straight razors today. Here's her take:
    1 life insurance paid up
    2 medical paid up
3 first aid kit is full
4 what about your shaky hands
Your much safer with a DE. NO!

Is that really a GEM Damaskeene? It looks like a regular 1912 to me from the big GEM stamping in the back. All the Damaskeene's I've seen say Gem Safety Razor Corp in the back and are stamped Damaskeene on the inside of the head. The head is very similar anyways though some Damaskeenes have round heads.

    Prep: Gaia face scrub
    Oil: Shave Secret
Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep
    Scuttle Georgetown Pottery
Razor: slim adjustable set to 5
    Blade: Voskhod
    soap:

    MDC Fougere (Martin de Candre)

    Post: Alum sprayed on
    Witch Hazel: Generic unscented
    AS: Sampsons all natural

I used MDC Fougere again today. This is really a nice soap. It is easy to lather and produces almost a thin yogurt consistency. Today the Fougere smell was readily noticeable. Yesterday I hardly smelled it at all. It is a nice scent that doesn't linger after the lather is gone. Yesterday and today I have noticed that my face felt softer and more nourished than usual. Overall, MDC is definitely a winner.

I have been curious for a while now, so I will ask.
Do you use pre-shave oil on your head?
Do you use alum on your head?
    Do you use witch hazel?
    Moisturizer?

You know what, I think you're bloody right. I did some extra googling and found this http://shavenook.com/thread-se-razor-review-the-1912-family Puts mine right into the plain old 1912 family. Doesn't help that Gem made so many variants but oh well WHATEVER it is it shaves like a dream.

No PreShave nor alum. Witch hazel felt amazing, aftershave and balm.
Mark, you certainly can use alum and a PreShave.

    Shave of the day

Pre- Hot shower + homemade PSO

    Soap/cream- Proraso red

    Brush- Plisson synthetic

    Razor- Mühle R89

    Blade- Astra SP

Post- Cold water rinse and Nivea ASB

My last two shaves has sucked. Soap/blade/brush combo, to many new and different variables. For tonight's shave I went back to my best combo which I used in the beginning while testing blades, before I started using new soaps and new blades. Proraso red and Plisson brush. I'm taking a break from testing new blades and sticking with Astra SP, which was really good for me. And what do you know, finally a successful shave again =D=D

On deck for tomorrow....WILLIAMS! I found 2 pucks crammed into the dark recesses of under my bathroom sink, next to bottles of Pinaud I don't use anymore LOL. I'm going through the motions that are suggestions that other guys have used for a long time, including repeated soakings of the puck to see how she'll perform tomorrow. Definitely going to go for a boar brush first; I'm hoping to once again put in back in my rotation instead of assigning it as my brush break in soap.
