That's one hell of a blade Mike, not being a fan of Heljestrands that's one blade I would like to bring on board.

They're awfully good shavers Jamie. Right up there with the J-Wests. Not that you need another expensive peccadillo :D

I know it's not 'ugly razor' week anymore—but that's pretty much describes the majority of my straights—or perhaps 'Plain Janes' may be more apt.

Some of the "plain Janes" shave as well as any other razor out there. I've traded "pretty" and "popular" razors that I couldn't get to shave me well and kept some Ugly Betties that gave me great shaves. To me, it is all about how well the razor shaves me.

But if it's pretty AND a good shaver...Bonus!

The C V Heljestrands are great blades. They can stand up to the best of the German, Spanish or Japanese straights. I wish I had a large one like this or the MK133 or MK134.

Where do you live that it is chilly? I live in North Carolina. I feel like I'm swimming through heat and humidity today.

The bigger CVH's can be hard to find, and expensive when found. I got very lucky with this one, the blade was in like new condition/NOS, and the scales were made by a real craftsman (not me :D) from excellent pre-ban ivory.

I'm in Iowa City, Iowa. The high today was low 60's, but the winds were high and especially chilly. Enough of an excuse for me to go with hot lather :)

I was outbid on a NOS MK12 7/8 about two weeks ago I then saw the razor with another member over on the SRP facebook page I told him he pipped me on the bidding he's a Swedish guy he told me the razor cost him a nice packet price wise.

I found contacts in Belgium and Sweden that had MK32's and MK33's, but was told it would be next to impossible to get the 133 or 134 and would be very pricey. I would love to have a 7 day set of MK33's in ivory.

The blade widths on the MK's can vary greatly within the number. It seems the 31 and 32 can start at 11/16 and go up to almost 6/8. I'd love a large MK. I have contacts in Belgium and Sweden that had 33's a few months ago, if you are interested.

I understand what you feel about the CVH's. The Swedish razors are definitely not flashy and seem to have less steel and thus less heft and the scales aren't beautiful. I like the ivory ones, though. What makes them so attractive is the edge you can get with the blades. I prefer larger blades but my little MK31 really is amazing.

I saw a post on another forum showing a 7 day set in ivory someone had just bought. I think saw some in tortoise recently as well in a post. the tortoise may have been a pair.

I know "AntiqueHoosier" who frequents some of the forums has recently been scoring some nice CVH's in tortoise.
