7/7/2014 Broken Arm Week / Menthol Monday!! Prep: Hot shower with L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash, home made PSO Razor: Muhle R41 2010, Wade & Butcher Original Bow straight razor Blade: Pol Silver Super Iridium (2) Brush: Turkish #6 Soap: Barbon shaving cream After: Home made ASB, Barbon after shave Cologne: Bond #9 - NY Oud It was a cool 2 pass Darn Fine Shave this morning. I tried out only shaving with my non dominant hand this morning. It felt fine to start, but I as I went to the off side I felt apprehensive. I took it really slow with the straight and ended up with right at a Darn Fine Shave. Have a blessed day!
Monday Prep: CeraVe cleanser Soap: The Shave Den unscented Brush: Oscar11 boar Razor: iKon ShaveCraft Blade: Super Iridium After: Cold rinse, CeraVe lotion I normally face lather, but today I decided to bring out the mug and make a bowl lather. I had a hard time getting it right. I started with a lather that was too light and airy, then added some glycerin, then loaded the brush some more on the soap. I finally got a good lather, but at that point I had a HUGE mug full of suds! After the lather issues, I had a comfortable, pleasant shave.
Razor: Wester Bros no 16 1/4 hollow + ER 1924 Blade: GEM Brush: Muhle Black Fiber Synthethic Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Pinaud I'm not sure what's going on. The first time the straight seemed really sharp. The second shave seemed less. Today's shave seemed dull tuggy and rough. I've been oiling the blade, drying the blade after use, stropping 10 times each side to dry it off some more and then oiling it again. Before use I strop it of course about 25 times each side. I leave it open to dry off several hours. I don't know maybe I just don't get on with carbon steel. I already had the strop before winning the SR PIF from Lindyhopper because I was using it to strop carbon SE blades which some on the SE forums have been doing to extend their life greatly. One tuggy rough shave is all I get. I will continue using the straight anyways. The good- no cuts again. I was expecting to have lots of cuts as many newbie straight razor users report but I haven't experienced that or even any razor burn. Could just be that it isn't full hollow so it is more forgiving. Finished up with the ER on about the 5th shave on the stainless GEM blade. It felt considerably sharper and smoother.
Supposed-to-be Menthol Monday: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Cleaning Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm Brush: VDH Boar Soap: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine (oops) Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (5) Passes: WTG, XTG (9, 10) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue Classic I intended to grab my Ginger's Garden Grass Stain Menthol Snow, but picked the wrong (unlabeled) container. Then, I intended to bowl-lather, but - habit being a funny thing - I went right ahead and face-lathered the soap using a variation on the Marco Method. For all those mistakes, the Bic is still chugging along, and I got a DFS out of the whole adventure. Who knows, maybe I'll inadvertently snag the menthol soap tomorrow.

It is a relatively mild razor. I find it very comfortable and effective, and a pleasure to hold and use - just the right heft and weight. The open comb side is more aggressive than the closed side, but just a little bit.
Welcome to the One-Handed Straight Shaver Club—where you drag a surgically-sharp 3" blade across you face with your non-dominant, not-so-coordinated hand!

Do not not usually bowl lather, might as well use it once in while since I paid good money for it. The shave this morning was about as good as I ever get. Two passes and a little touch up. Dave
SoS - Menthol Monday, July 7, 2014 Cool shower Prep: Peppermint PSO Brush: WD 24/47 silvertip Soap: Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill Razor: '56 Gillette Ball-end Tech Blade: Personna Lab Blue (4) Post: Stirling Lemon Chill WH Aftershave: Osage Rub Since I killed off a puck of Frozen Tundra last week, I needed a suitable replacement for Menthol Mondays. The Glacial Lemon Chill seemed an obvious choice. I already use and love the Stirling Lemon Chill Witch Hazel. The soap exceeded my lofty expectations in lathering and performance. This stuff is indeed as cold as advertised, providing face freezing shave when paired with the witch hazel and Osage Rub. Delightful all around. - Don
