6/8 Wacker Inox Prep SS Vie Long horse Nice shave. No "tangle hole" developed in the knot this time. I did adjust my technique with the brush for this shave, however. Have a good one. Sorry for the second photo, out of focus, no time for a redo but you as you can see, no problem.
Looking good fellas! Random comments: Oscar11: Since you appear to be "The Wacker Guy" have you heard anything about a second run of Chevaliers and have you ever ordered from Wacker directly? I've heard nightmares. The Wacker website says they're going to do a second run, but I doubt that any US vendors will be carrying them. BTW: My Vie-Long horse hair has not yet begun to loose the barnyard smell. Luckily I like the smell of horses . But it's a solid brush, I think I'm gonna like it. Lindyhopper66: You continue to amaze me with awesome razors. That FWE is a sweety! HolyRollah: I don't actually believe I've ever shaved with the same razor but a different soap two days in a row. A sort of "A-B" comparison. I should do this immediately. Jamie: Every time I see that Dragon God the itch starts right back up...
I am new to straights, and I am taking it slow. Got mine from @lindyhopper66, it is a J.M. Schmid & Son 6/8. I did my cheeks and neck with one pass.
Well, Mike, assuming you've got a few soap pucks laying about, this process does give one an immediate comparison on how the same razor 'feels' with the differing soaps. I don't find a huge difference in MdC & the Cade soap as far as performance. Both yield slick lather rather easily and provide a very good feel on the face. Two of my favorites. And so far, I'm two for two on great shaves with the DD goldedge...
I haven't tried the Cade, but I'm a huge fan of MdC. Also finding myself using my RazoRock soaps quite a bit recently. Withe the occasional dose of Proraso, Tabac, and MWF among others. Big number one on my vintage razor want list right now is a nice DD. I currently have none.
No I've never bought directly from Wacker. Nope, I haven't heard anything about a second run but it would be a major temptation if he did. I wouldn't consider me a Wacker Guy, even though I have 2. I just went Spartan for a while, one soap, one razor and a few different brushes. I have no idea how long it will last.
Jamie, technically it's called a "box" by woodturners. I made it about 7-8 years ago when I actually had time to do some woodturning. IIRC, the bottom is maple and the top is box elder that I woodburned with a soldering gun and finished with Danish oil. My nieces little boy was over a couple of weeks ago and found it in my shop so I decided to make a soap container out of it.
6/8 Wacker Inox Prep SS and homemade acorn soap bowl Vie Long Horse Great shave again his morning. TGIF, have a good one.
