War of the Worlds. Typical Hollywood movie. Lots of explosions and not much else. I know Steven Spielberg- I knew what I was getting just wanted to show my little brother one he'd like.

The Frozen Ground. I couldn't believe that kind of horrifying incident really happened years ago.

    Watched this last night.
It was a bit like The Hunger Games in that it was about teens fighting in a not-so-distant future w/ focus on one girl in particular.

It was about 2hrs and 20mins long and it felt like it. Got a bit draggy half-way through and I started to multi-task whilst watching.
Overall a decent flick that could have done with 30+ mins cut out of it.

Erik Redd Lizabeth, baby, I'm comin' to join ya.

I watched "In Bruges" based on this thread. One son and I really liked it, one son kinda liked it and SWMBO left the room after 15 minutes. It's a dark comedy and you need a bit of a macabre sense of humor.

I think we have the same cable company. I was watching that last night, also. Love Maureen O'Hara, especially in The Quiet Man, not so much in McClintock.

That is true for 99% of American movies they make today.

Which is why I haven't been in a theater in over 12 years. At least if I get it on Netflix and it stinks, I don't feel like I've wasted a bunch of money.

I thought it was a great concept - but the execution was just dreadful.

And it all hinges on the absurd... doofus kid opening the door to a stranger which every kid knows not to do, and how much more so during a night of legal anarchy?!

I'm a firm believer that kids under 18 years old should almost never be in any movie targeting adults.
There are obvious some exceptions to that rule but in general that seems to work for me :)

It wouldn't be so bad, IMHO, if the overriding theme weren't that every kid of the age group knows far more than the "retarded" adults they're around. As to the movie above... gee, there's a darn good reason that dad has the house on total lock down, but I know better so I'm gonna deactivate everything to let a stranger in. DUH!
