1. Two great minds. I haven't looked at other threads yet, today.
  2. That icon should have been a 'wink'—not a sad face in my last post (fixed!)...:D

  3. It must be two razor day. Yesterday I shaved with the modern Suzumasa (I have a vintage one as well.). Today I wanted to revisit my only other modern razor, AOS "version" of the Dovo Master, I bought from Steve Suko/oscar11 early on in my straight razor "career". I love my Japanese straights as well and so used one of my Hayashi Diamond's. This one says "Special Process Schoeller Bleckmann High Class Steel Super Extra Razors Hayashi D. Co." on the blade front. I love how every razor is super or best, etc. This one is.

  4. Good. I was worried you were upset with me.

I actually was delighted that I had the same observations concerning a straight razor as someone with your experience and knowledge, Robert! :happy088:

  6. A nice side effect is that this presented an opportunity to compare the razors, both in performance and characteristics. While both razor were close in performance for me, the Canuck slightly better, I was surprised at how much shorter the Celebrated looked.

  8. I used to try more than 2 razors in a shave to do just that. It's too bad you can't shave every few hours. I also try different brushes and soaps and creams at the same shave. It is interesting to see the difference in razors and products in the same shave. Then there's the after shaves ....
  9. I've read somewhere that different manufacturers shared the services of some of the same people to make their razors. Carl Monkhouse was making razors in New York when he first came to the USA, but later was importing them from Germany. Who knows, he could have used the services of the Dubl Duckers.

  10. Back to one razor today, although not the one I wanted to use. Time was somewhat critical this morning and only the Celebrated was stopped, so it got put to use this morning.

I'm still using Steve's synthetic brush, the little brush that could. What a great brush!

  15. My husband currently uses shaving oil to shave and a regular razor in the shower! He has been intrigued by the straight razor....anyone use a straight razor with shaving oil only? Also recommendations on a 1st straight razor? Maybe a great gift idea :)

  16. You could look in the buy/sell/trade sections of shaving forums for straights. Forums that are more likely to have straights are straightrazorplace.com and badgerandblade.com. Vintage razors are usually a better deal moneywise. If you want to get a starter kit, contact Larry at whippeddog.com. His razors are inexpensive vintage razors, but not beauties. If you want a new razor at a decent price honed by an expert, go to straightrazordesigns.com or thesuperiorshave.com.

I've heard of people using shaving oil with double edge razors, but never with a straight razor. It might cause more drag than slide.

If you want more specific advice or help, just PM me or other straight razor users here.

This is by far my cleanest looking straight. Thanks to following Kevin's (@HolyRollah) beautiful restores, I'm hoping to change that.
