After 22 hours of soaking, a firm talking to, and a semi-firm twist the Black Beauty is clean and ready to be used again. I am glad this worked. Now, since baby oil is essentially all mineral oil will it work? I twisted it 10 or so times after it released from it's wretched hold. I found out that pointing the doors to the floor helped it close better.
Yes, but it will smell a bit more powdery. Let me see….olive oil from olives, peanut oil from peanuts, corn oil from corn. So where exactly does 'baby oil' come from?!!
I use a product from Lowes called Dupont Teflon-Silicone lubricant on my tto razors and never had a prooblem
Baby oil should work to help loosen the mechanism, but I would go with something thinner. I have read several places that there is no need to lubricate a twist-to-open or an adjustable. As long as it is clean, it should work well.
Someone recommended soaking TTOs in baby oil or mineral oil for 2 days. I had tried the hot water/soap approach and this helped some, but not enough. I then did a baby oil soak which removed a surprising amount of gunk the soapy water missed, including calcium build-up, and made the TTO action silky smooth.
Probably still loads of "junk" inside. Microwave some soapy water to near boiling the drop in the razor. Let it sit, then repeat. I've opened up three stuck quarter turns with this technique. First one was OK after one soak. Last one took 3 days of repeating.
Yes it will work because it is mineral oil. Now fully soak (immerse) the razor in it overnight and see if any gunk comes out of the razor. That may help in terms of smoothness of opening afterwards.
