Yo Slow....sorry It took soo long getting back at ya... What does it have printed on the spine or top of the opposite end from the edge? If it says 009 RD, then its carbon steel and you should dry it and put a drop of baby oil on each side of the blade each time you use it to prevent rust...(at least thats what I do) If it says GEM, then you probably have a stainless blade and you don't have to do anything different than with a DE blade... You should get a box of GEM Stainless and a box of carbons to see which you like best.... Heres a link to a really great guide by our very own HoosierTrooper. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/a-small-guide-to-single-edge-blades.28037/
I love that razor too.....That was the first razor I ever saw my dear ol Dad use when I was like 4....I flipped...I mean shiney Gold...a lever that makes the jaw drop, and an injector that racks blades like a 45 automatic...whats a 4 year old not to dig?...Of course I had to play with it, so of course Dad had to put it up high in the medicine cabinet....I then climbed on the toilet and to the sink and rescued it and the injector...Dad walks in and sees a sink full of blades....I was like schuk, schuk, schuk, rapid firing blades through it....sooo Pop had to hide it good, and he gave me a super speed with cardboard blades.....I didn't get to play with the Schick again for 10 years....When I was ready to start shaving my peach fuzz, Pop had saved that Hydro-magic for that day...Boom....I was back. Fighting the temptation to start rifleing off blades again...ha,ha.... Now I still love that Hydro-magic...you know, Col. Schick was a genius who invented a better mousetrap....and the good people at Eversharp I think were also incredibly hip to make that change from the G type to the I2 Hydro-magic....That was a very hip modernization to an already Great Classic razor. They improved a perfect razor and kept it's integrity intact....Bravo to Schick and Eversharp... I don't think Eversharp has been given enough credit....Everyone raves about Schick and rightfully so....But Eversharp produced for many , the best razors on the planet for many years (for injector lovers at least)... I hear many Injector Specialist list the E2 and I2 or J2 as their favs....The point is, the quality didn't go down when Eversharp step in...in fact they brought excellent ideas in that kept the shavers best interest at heart..Bully! And Whoot! To quote a shaving friend far wiser than I...
And I do think of some of them as sports cars....specifically....the E2 as a 40 Ford Coupe Hot Rod.....the I1 or 2 types as an Aston Martin db4 or 5.....and the J's as Jaguar E type Coupes with those long hoods.... Whats your sports car/Injector vision like? Am I close? The above has been my image of these guys since I was a kid....Too many Mad Magazines.....But I always did think if Aston Martin made a Safety Razor it would be a Schick... I remember when Dad took me to see Goldfinger in '64....I gave him a hard time on the way home from yhe theatre...I said, you know James Bond used a Gillette adjustable on Goldfinger's plane....and Dad without batting an eye said, "Thats only in the movie, Gillette paid for that...Can't you see James Bond's a modern guy who likes modern things...He'd definitely use a Schick"......Boy.....Did he nail it or what.....
You get the Personna to work?? You have magic or something?? I have one and love the look/feel but can't get it to work for beans. What's the trick to make it work?? Inquirying minds want to know!!
I've never really thought about it all that deeply before to be honest Bird, it's more of an analogy that I've seen often on the various forums and just thought it apt, sort of just on an intuitive level I guess. But if I do think about it a bit more I suppose that, for me, it's the way they feel while shaving and particularly the maneuverability that really reminds me of the sports car analogy more than any particular design aesthetic. If I had to pull a specific model out of the hat?...maybe a classic 356 Speedster, top down of course! (my only injectors are E & G types, FWIW) Or maybe even my own lil' fair-weather grocery-getter, a '69 BMW 2002...somewhat modified...
I can see both of those....lokks like that Speedster is a babe magnet...now if that Schick makes you a babe magnet the connection is perfect....
All this talk about Schicks....I'm gonna back my Hydro-magic out of the medicine cabinet and take her for a spin....Happy Shaving Everybody!!
