Just wanted to create a thread about the ATT slant. I haven't seen much mentioned about it here. Apologies if I missed the thread . My plan was to get an ATT system (subtle/not so subtle hints have been dropped at SWMBO) for Christmas. I was struggling on what the third base plate would be. I had planned on getting R1 (to replace my Parker 91r - which would become my travel razor) and an M2 (to replace my Parker 24c). For the third plate, I wasn't sure ... Probably would have been H1. I've always wanted to try a slant and was eye balling the RR Stainless Stealth Slant prototype. Chances of getting one are slim and based on Joe's descriptions, they are not pretty (were not polished before DLC coating was applied and there is a no exchange/warranty policy on them). I then picked up on the ATT slant in another forum. Had a discussion with Stan today (who is great by the way - replied to my email instantaneously). He confirmed that his goal was to get the ATT slant out by the holidays. I think I may have found the solution to the third plate. Nice thing about ATT is that I can trial the slant head for 30 days and exchange it if I don't like it.
I just read about the RR DLC Slant. If you resell it, you will need to dish out $10k to IB. I'm sorry I can't help with ATT. I do have the iKon 5piece DLC. The standard plate is very efficient. Haven't tired the OC.
An ATT slant bar?? That is "FANTASTIC news!!! Did Stan give you any hint as to how much the slant bars will cost? Or if you have to buy the entire razor(head and handle), can you just buy a slant bar head? I hope you can find out more info and keep us informed..
It is great news! He said the slant head will work with all existing ATT handles. However, the slant cap is unique to the slant base plate; which makes sense. The prototype slant base plate was derived from the R1 plate. No indication on cost. Also, it is not clear if he is going to stick to one slant head or make 3 (i.e. M,R,H).
HMMMMMMMMMM 3 different levels of slant bar.. Now that would be something, although honestly I don't think it would be needed. Only problem for me now is I want a slant bar ASAP and now I may have to put off getting one until the ATT slants make their debut, although based on the price of other ATT products, I don't think I'll be able to afford one..
If you go to the IB website, it is listed there with a description. It says "out of stock", but Joe has confirmed via twitter that he has not sold any yet. This is simply for potential buyers to familiarize themselves with the terms of his agreement, given that these are prototypes.
I was under the impression that I completely missed out on the RR dlc slant when it came out the other day squeezed into a blade thread. was this not the case? or did the RR stealth testers have dibs on them?
You haven't missed out. Make sure you read the conditions of sale. If you do twitter follow razorock, and check IB's website often.
The other thing that seems to be causing confusion regarding the RR slant is that there will be two versions released in the near future. There will be a light weight aluminum model based on the black anodized aluminum prototype. There will also be the RR Stainless DLC Slant prototype, which will be a heavy weight and 4.8 oz. The stainless one is expected soon!
As an update, Stan has said that there will be two new ATT slants in the near future (based on R plate aggression): S1 - Closed Comb slant S2 - Open Comb slant He has tested the SB and on the second shave is describing BBS. Decisions, Decisions!
For those interested, ATT slant pre-order is live! I bought a 7 piece system: S1, R1, M2, Kronos handle and Atlas handle. Super pumped!!!
I recieved the email alert yesterday, the stainless slant head looks great! I won't be buying one, I'm very happy with my iKon SC102. I can't wait to hear your thoughts. ATT is top of the line.
ATT Slant is here !!! Apologies in advance as I only have a phone camera. The ATT slant looks amazing. In terms of fit and finish, it is as billed - fantastic! It is a twist slant producing uneven blade exposure with a very slight tilt (3 degrees). I have not shaved with it yet. Here are some pics. Will review in full once I have a few shaves under my belt and will compare to RRKS:
