I'm thinking about getting a new silvertip, but don't want to go crazy on the price. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on something reasonable? Reasonable meaning I'd like to keep it under $100.

    Thanks

I have and like my Whipped Dog Silvertip. Super brush at a great price.

I was looking at the Whipped dog selection which appears very nice and reasonably priced, but thought I'd get a few opinions before making a purchase.

Frank Shaving (ebay is flooded with models) has a variety in your price range. Also, if you can track down someone somewhere who still carries the Lijun line of Chinese-made badger brushes—which are excellent.

Ace Shaving found on ebay also make pretty good brushes. I have not tried the silvertip, but the finest is top knot(ch) :)

I just checked Shoe Box Shave shop and Gary has at least 15 Silvertip brushes made
by Omega that are well under $100. (and a few that are more than $100)

+? for Whipped Dog Silvertip. I love mine: 22mmx48mm. I have had it for about a year now. Definitely in the "Best Bang for the Buck Club". $30 shipped set deep.

    I used it yesterday.

    Highly recommend www.thegoldennib.com
Big selection of knots and handles, great prices and great customer service. Before you settle on a silvertip do a little Google research on the TGN finest, to me it is so much better than the silvertip that it's not even a contest.

I haven't heard anything bad about WD. I have never tried one but have good experience with Shavemac.

    …or a reasonable facsimile. ;)

Here's the brush in context for scale. WD 30mm silver tip. A very nice brush, by the way, with very soft tips and quite dense.

I don't think anyone could criticize a choice of either Whipped Dog or Golden Nib. They both make fine brushes for a low price.

I have to agree. Whipped Dog & The Golden Nib are high quality at good prices. Whipped Dog's prices include shipping.

I'll add in favor of Franks Brushes. I have one and was a great buy for $30.
I also love my Vie-Long horse and Turkish bore. Brushes don't vary as much as blades so you should be fine with any of our recommendations.

I will keep the limit much more under the 40 $
Lijun for something cheap that works
TGN knots if you can do the work, excellent knots
WD is on the very soft side (that doesn't work for my face)
FS has lot of problem lately, avoid it.

I'm a little late to the party, but for creams and soft soaps like Cella my WD 30/45 is great for bowl/mug or face lathering. Set deep at 45 it is dense and soft. When I ordered mine I was worried that the 30mm would be too large, but with the deep set it has backbone and is incredibly soft on the skin, which was a major requirement. Larry will set a knot anyway you want it which is cool. You can see mine in yesterday's SOTD using The Gentlemen shave cream. Good luck to you on your quest.:eatdrink047:
