you must know something we don't because I have not heard of a "super paste"? I know CAR has different types of pastes with different concentration of clays but a super paste...new to me. Raf
The newer pastes with the clay and emollient add-in's are what he is referring to when he says super paste. These are custom blended to the users preferences and not the standard one he's been selling for several years now. Your best bet is just call him and tell him to send you a tub of the crap Mike shaves with. Trust me, you'll like it
I drove through Austin during the Holidays and had to make a quick stop at Enchante. Picked up two more soaps, some paste and some conditioner. Great stuff. The more I use it, the more it is becoming my "go to" shaving soap/paste. To me, it also works great when I shave with a st8.
If you're going to put a sharp object of any kind to you face, straight, DE, even a cartridge... the Hydrolast stuff works great. What I like so much is that I can tweak the way I build my mix for however I want to shave. For straights, I like a thicker lather that will stay on my face while I take my time cutting. Or I can throw a Feather in my favorite DE and make a super slick thinner lather. Good stuff ::
It's just lathering technique and the amount of water. You kind of have to get a feel for it. Even using the cube as your base primer, Charles has three types of pastes that each react differently.
I was in Austin last Friday and popped into Enchante (sorry Mike, it was a last-minute business-related thing, even CAR didn't know I was coming). Charles mixed up a "three tiered" paste with a blend of what he thought would be best for me. I finally got around to trying it this morning (with a hard puck instead of a Cube)...and HOLY COW, what a shave. Noticably better than any other HL blend I've tried. Each pass knocked down much more stubbled than I've experienced, to the point to where my T&C was hardly necessary and I didn't even bother with a Cutting Balm cleanup. Astonishing stuff. --Mark (PS: When I stopped in the store Collinarose was there!)
Hehe, I've been shaving with that stuff for a few weeks now and it's definately amazing. Like you, I'm not really using any cutting balm with it either. At this rate he'll eventually come up with a paste so powerful that it just scares the stubble right off your face :happy102
These new pastes are amazing. Like Mike I have used them recently with great results. I think there is one I still have not tried but the prototypes are simply fantastic. Raf
So.......? What do I ask for when I order: 1. Mike's Super Paste 2. Mark's Triple Threat uberSpread or 3. Chuck Norris' Roundhouse Reduction ???
Mike, which one will work best with a straight? Do I have to use Charles soaps or can I use Mama Bears soaps. I am loving the smell of those with unscented paste added in for added slickness. Brad P.S> -I think we need an Austin straight HL meet. Anyone interested?
If you are using straights, tell Charles to mix you up a tub of #1 white paste. I use it with the cube, haven't tried it with any other soaps. It makes a nice stable mix that the straight cuts really well. I believe that's the paste that Debbie at The Good Life is using on all her straight shaves now. I'm all for a meetup. Been thinking of putting something together in the next month or so.
