    9/19/2014 Williams Week

Prep: Hot shower with L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash, home made PSO
Razor: Gillette Fat Boy F3 (3), Dubl Duck Goldedge straight razor
Blade: Pol Silver Super Iridium (5)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: Williams Mug Shaving Soap
After: Home made ASB, Aqua Velva classic Ice Blue after shave
Cologne: Prada - Eau De Toilette

I soaked the Williams in warm water while taking a shower. I went back to the #6 today and the lather seemed to be a little thinner today, but no disappearing act. 2 passes and my face is almost BBS. The AV brought the chill and the Prada EDT will keep me smelling great all day.

    Have a blessed day!!

Todays shave was a bit different than my usual. As you can see there was no pre-shave or brush involved. Technically there wasn’t any soap involved. Why you ask? Because this morning I used a brand new product created for us head shavers!

I keep being amazed by Provence Sante Especially since it's French and vegan. It is the first truly good veggie soap I use that is the equal of a tallow soap. One of my favorites.

    Friday 09/19/14

    Prep: Gaia face scrub
    Oil: Shave Secret
Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep
    Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery
Razor: 1912 Everready (left side of face) Gem Damaskeene (right side of face)
    Blade: Gem high carbon blades
    soap: Provence Sante
    Post: alum sprayed on
    Witch Hazel: Generic unscented
    AS: Sampson's all natural

Yesterday I had a terrible shave, being extremely rough and acting as if I had no lather on at all. Yesterday's issue reappeared this morning. With the first pass I knew that something was not right. My initial thought, because it is always easier to blame tools than the craftsman, was that I had a couple of bad blades. Then it hit me. The issue was not with the blades, the razor, or my technique. The issue was with the way I made my lather. Although my lather looked good, and was sufficient for a DE shave, it was definitely not wet enough for an SE shave. I ended up adding a lot more water, to the point I was thinking I had added too much. The result was very nice. I ended with a 2 pass, very close shave. For the record, the Damaskeene side of my face does feel like a slightly closer shave.

    :signs011:

It is without doubt my favorite.

Prep: Hot shower. Neutrogena Face Wash. Noxzema.

    Brush: Van Der Hagen badger.

Lather: Forever Summer Caribbean Bay Moisturizing Shaving Soap (Ortonville, MI)

Razor: 1960 F1 Gillette Fatboy, set to 5.

    Blade: CVS (Personna)

Post: Cold water; Razorock Alum Block; C.O. Bigelow Dr. Galen Herbal Witch Hazel Skin Tonic No. 010.

    After: L'Occitane Cade aftershave splash.

Great BBS head shave with my shiny new (new-to-me) Gillette Fatboy F1. Very similar to my experience with the 1967 Slim Adjustable, which I guess is no surprise. Looks like the Fatboy will become part of my regular rotation, along with the Slim, the 1957 Flare Tip, and the Krona (for days when I really need a milder shave).

Only drawback - SWMBO said the Cade was a little too cedar-y, and that it reminded her of a hamster. A clean, well-groomed hamster, but a rodent nonetheless. So, I may need to reconsider whether the Cade is a good choice. I love the smell, but if it reminds people of a gerbil cage, perhaps it's time for a new signature scent.

At least it wasn't cat litter.

When it's time to eat my words, I man up. I've been on the record as voting that MDC isn't worth the price they ask. Today was my fourth shave with a MDC Fougere soap and I've become a believer. Same thing happened to me with C&S Oxford & Cambridge.

    FRIDAY
    A Late Morning Shave!
This is what happens when you burn the candle at both ends...you don't hear your 4:30am alarm & wind up missing your first meeting of the day.
Quick shave needed this morn, so I opted to grab a DE razor—a two-pass Mühle R41 shave was all I needed.
Ready for the day & playing catch-up already....
    Have a blessed Friday, all!

    Frey's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub Cleanser, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: RazoRock One-X
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (1)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG (1, 2, 3)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, RazoRock One-X AS splash
Cologne: Le 3e Homme de Caron by Caron

Wednesday's razor burn carried on longer than I'd expected it to, so between that and the early start to Thursday, I skipped shaving yesterday. Today I opted to retire the previous blade and switch to my milder razor to try to fix the issue of the burn. Unfortunately, I shook out a little too much of the water from my brush, so the typically excellent One-X lather was a little less slick than I'm used to. As a result, I had a couple of painless weepers crop up during the 2nd and 3rd passes of an otherwise BBS shave.
