Broke out Ever-Ready 1912 with a Ted Pella blade. Makes the fourth shave on this blade. Really love this old razor and it was well used and well taken care of.

I used this ER 1912 for the first time yesterday with a new Gem blade. Felt like sandpaper on my face. After a few passes on my cheek, I abandoned the 1912 and finished with my Gillette Adjustable and Feather blade.

Was I simply using the wrong blade? I got it at a local retailer (Walgreens, Rite Aid...), and it is marked "009 RD."

What's my best choice for blades in this Ever-Ready?

Just picked up what I think is a G. It is very similar to what I think are my E's except for the head color, handle color, and the "G" has Eversharp Schick, on the head, while the "E" has Schick Injector. They both have Canadian Patent 1937 on the head.
I just used the G for the first time this morning with a new Chick blade and it has the same aggressiveness as the E. My shaves with the Schick Injectors, including the M adjustable are some of the smoothest shaves I get, maybe the best out of all of my razors.

@Roderick another way to tell is the Es do not have a thin plastic seam running along the handle like the Gs. And Yes I would agree with them being the smoothest best shaving razors ever:happy093:

Of my 3 Schick Injectors only the Ivory color handle has a seam. The Black or maybe Navy Blue and the carmel color one does not. Except for the head color on the black/blue one they are identical.

Just my off the cuff and unexpert opinion...
My Damaskeene is at least 10 years older and is probably my gentlest SE razor...It feels very non-agressive, but the results are surprisingly affective... Like much closer shave than I would expect from such a non agressive feeling shave....

Now the ER1924 is another one of my favorites...this one is probably my most agressive razor and the results are amazingBBS's ...

Now for my Damaskeene to achieve as close results I would need at least 4 passes , but from the Shovelhead maybe 2 1/2...but with the 1924 you feel the blade edge on your skin, and with the Damaskeene you're checking to see if theres a blade in the razor...

Now if the 1924 you're referring to is the GEM 1924.... That one is a1912 style GEM, not a front hinged Shovelhead type razor; with a fluted handle that would fall right in the middle ; on the aggressive chart; between the Damaskeene and the Shovelhead....Some refer to it as a " Goldilocks" razor because its not an extreme...like the fariytale, its 'just right'...

Hope some of my ramblings here might shine a little light on some of the differences between these classic blade runners...at least between my personal examples....There are differences between many of the same style razors therefore we have to always consider that YMMV Factor....};^)

    Shave of the day

Pre- Hot shower, Coalface face soap(From LUSH)

    Soap/cream- Proraso red

    Brush- The body shop Synthetic

    Razor- Schick dial(3)

    Blade- Schick injector blade

Post- Cold water rinse, Speick for men and Nivea aftershave balm

First shave ever with a Schick. I was very careful so I didn't cut myself.

It felt a bit tuggy on some places on my face, but I blame it on technique =) I didn't get as close as I like and would get with my slim or my MMOC or even my muhle r89. But I didn't want to make to many passes and end up with irritation. The key is to know when to stop haha. I got an irritation free shave, I'm happy with that.

I think the shave would be better with some personna injector blades.
