I'm building UP to that amount. My wrist is still a bit tender to perform that many laps, so Im currently using more like 25/50 tops…..

Last night: I used The Wee Larkin—'The Little Straight That Could'—which, to be honest, takes some getting used to. The whole shave went beautifully until near the end of my final pass (98% done!) when I misjudged where the razor ends (about 1" shorter than standard) and my tender cheek began. Slice! :shocked003: This resulted in a nice 1/2" slice on the cheek (bled like a red river). My wife just looked at me and shook her head, and said, "Thats what you get for trying to shaving with 'toys'…."

Although I omitted the glycerin. The combo still yields thick rich lather worthy of an 'über-ness' title.
I've been combining my soaps lately—mainly the Stirling with others. For some reason i'm unable to figure out, I just can't get Stirling to develop a thick, lasting lather by itself.
When I combine it with a quality lathering soap such as the Cade, its a winner! Love the mega-menthol in some of the Stirlings.

LOVE those old Greaves! I have an old stubby, not today's shave, but here's a shot of it from a previous SOTD:

Nice razor! Isn't it encouraging when less DE razor work is necessary? For me, that was sign things were moving in the right direction! :happy088:

The razor burn concerns me a little shaving seems effortless compared to my first go at it. I realize the burn is comming from 3 passes on my neck how do I correct that using a SR...pressure?

Now for post maintenance on shaver I don't want to r u in Glenn hard work my shaver has been left open to dry so does 50 strop on canvas...50 leather?

You're aggravating your skin. Use less passes until it heals and go overboard on your prep. Avoid those problem areas until you have a better feel for the blade. Otherwise, I fear, you'll just keep raking your face raw by going over the same inflamed areas repeatedly. Don't shoot for uber close since you're just starting SR shaving. Cut your face some slack and be content with 2 decent passes; touch up with a DE if you must.

Well, since I spouted off about every NOS J-West I'd ever had being shave ready, this Tanifuji Cape Kennedy arrived not quite there. Started with it, made a few strokes, and finished with a Corvette 1965 Phoenix Steel. On the bright side, it,s going to be a short touch up on the hones, and it IS gorgeous :D

Note to @lindyhopper66: plan on some touching up before you shave with yours!

In spectator mode this morning, gazing at all the beautiful SRs….I'm taking a day or two off while my newly-acquired G.I.Joe cheek wound heals from Tuesday night's blood-letting.:D

I usually do 25 linen/50 canvas; lightly each morning pre-shave. Numbers are subjective, by the way. I'm not sure my face could tell the difference if I were to do 45 or 60 laps in place of 50…;)
Some guys do 50/100 laps each time. To me, this seems excessive, but to each, his own…

My other Tanifuji needed touchup, but the Manaslu M-55 I used today just needed some stropping. I will try the Cape Kennedy after touching up.

These razors Mike and I bought from the seller in Japan have the smallest bevel I've seen, even on other NOS razors. I don't know if this is the factory edge or if the seller's edge. I'm guessing factory edge. All of my vintage German NOS razors' factory edges were good to go.

Mike the Cape Kennedy was made in 1971 when Tanifuji turned 77 years old.

darn nice shave today - effortless and BBS. When I first took delivery of this razor it looked and felt sharp but just never shaved to suite me. After 3 honings I finally got the bevel right

The bevel on this is almost nonexistent. But nonetheless it was very close to shave ready. Took about five minutes on a 12k and a Nakayama finisher to make it laser sharp.

Thanks for the tip about the CK. I was trying to decipher the info from the sellers posting.
