    RazoRock Brain Freeze soap
    WD Synthetic
    Merkur HDC w/Gillette 7 O'clock
Cold water, witch hazel, 444, TSD ISZ AS Milk (neck), Osage Rub (face)

Face - ATG, touch up; Neck - XTG, ATG, touch up

This was my first time with the RRBF. It's a mixed review.
Lather: Looked good in the bowl. Didn't last on my face. (I'll take most of the blame, since I'm historically bad with soaps.) No slide and glide at all.
Coldness: Zero. Nada. C.O.B. is colder than this. I think the factory may have mislabeled some containers. Either that, or @crackstar has bought it all, and RR is pawning off regular soap on the rest of us. :angry019:
Shave quality: This was a very nice shave, much to my surprise. I experienced a great deal of tugging and pulling, but when I was finished, I had a close shave with almost zero irritation.

lollll Never tried Bigelow or any RR soap, my friend. Hey, you know what - the Synergy Frost_byte or Iced Subzero soaps give PLENTY of menthol freezing. Great lather and skincare also! ;)

It is unfortunate that these blades are no longer made. They are great! sharper than the Personna PTFEs. WP_DS20141011.jpg

Prep: Warm shower, Proraso Pre Shave
    Razor: Merkur 34c
    Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1)
    Lather: L'Occitane Cade Soap
    Brush: Oscar11 w/ Omega 20248 Knot
    Post: Witch Hazel, Cetaphil Lotion
    Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman

I came across a Merkur 34c in mint condition at an estate sale yesterday that I was able to pick up for $8. I had never used one of these before, but have always heard good things about them. I have to say that it lived up to its reputation. I found it slightly more aggressive than my EJ DE89. I prefer longer handles, but you can't argue with BBS results.

    Have a great day!

Prep: Hot shower. Kirk's Original Coco Castile Bar Soap.

    Brush: Omega 266.

Lather: Forever Summer Sandalwood shaving stick (locally made).

    Razor: Merkur 34C.

    Blade: Voskhod.

Post: Cold water; Razorock Alum Block.

    After: Captain's Choice "North" aftershave.

I can honestly say that this was the best shave of my life today. I took my time, didn't rush anything, and let the weight of the razor and my steadily-improving technique do most of the work. I made 3 passes on my head (WTG, ATG, and XTG) and just two on my face and neck and everything felt as smooth as glass when I was done. Unbelievable shave. The Voskhod blade and the Merkur seemed like they were made for each other. Just wow. This was definitely one that I will be comparing future shaves to. I've had a few issues before with nicks and weepers on the back of my head because of the more inconsistent terrain there, but today was pretty much flawless.

The only thing I wasn't really a fan of was the scent of the sandalwood soap stick. It wasn't awful, but I actually like the more medicinal Arko scent better. I don't know if using a soap stick had anything to do with the quality of today's shave but I will be interested to see if I can get the same results with the Arko stick I ordered, when it eventually makes its way here from Turkey.

Now off to enjoy some apple cider and cinnamon donuts at the cider mill with my family! Perfect crisp fall day for it here.

Razor: Gillette Old Type Open Comb Ball End NDC 1920s (from "The Weekender" by Metalfield kit)
Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: TOBS Coconut
    Blade: Feather (2)
Pre shave: Tree Hut Shea Body wash Mango
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Nivea Men Post Shave Balm, OS Shulton
    image.jpg
I'm giving The Gillette Old Type OC another shot and will work on my technique. It does give me some burn if I use to much pressure and I go over an area more than once on each pass. The pre shave Shea soap helps keep my skin slick in the drier weather. The Fuller brush whipped up a thick lather and I screwed in the Feather, and checked the alignment and was good to go for my first pass WTG. I have been paying attention to the other post in the Open Comb OCtober thread about using a very shallow angle to get a smother shave. I think it worked. I also did not rinse the razor much but kept it full of lather which gave me more cushion. A little rinse to see how we are doing and relather for a XTG pass on my face and ATG on my neck. No touch up and we are done. A very close shave. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some Nivea Balm and some OS. I will have to use this razor more often, and work on my technique with it. Have a good one.
