When I exhausted my first container of this I saved the tub and removed the label. I peeled the adhesive label from the MWF refill puck package and stuck it right on top of the tub. It may seem a bit cheap to put MWF in a plastic tub, but it works... I remove the lid and soak the MWF for a few minutes 2-3 times weekly, whether I'm shaving with it or not. I favor a boar brush for this, but if you prefer a soft badger brush it's very helpful to soak the MWF up-side-down (soap facing the bottom of the sink!) in a sink filled with warm water for at least 2-3 minutes before loading. Be sure to work the brush on the puck vigorously. You'll want it to pick up plenty of soap.
I know this is an old thread but I let my puck of MWF soak over night, Well it swelled. However there appeared to be some water left over. I dumped it out but smelled like lanolin and was very slick/slippery. Did I ruin the soap?
Nope. That is what you are supposed to do. I did the same thing with mine and it has performed perfectly ever since. Good Job!!
My favorite soap ever. Its not a hard soap. Soak it in hot water for a while then pour the water out. You should be able to mold it into the bowl. I just pushed it around with my thumbs. I never understand how people have problems lathering this soap. Just put some warm water on it while you shower. Soak your brush also. Then after showering pour the water out and load your brush. I usually load a little bit more then other soaps. I have hard water and I get TONS of beautiful thick lather from wool fat. I love everything about it. Scent, face feel, slickness, lather, and how it moisturizes.
Phew! I was afraid I ruined it. Well, I will find out tonight by firsthand experience if it works better. I decided to let it soak a little more so hopefully it will be a little more co-operative.
Nope - You didn't ruin it. You improved it. Actually, I see no reason to even dump out the water still in there. Unless you add more water than you would to lather it, there is no harm in excess water. It will get soaked up and eventually evaporate. I water my soaps once a week, the same as my plants.
It was just sitting there so I got rid of it. I figured the soap soaked up all it could. But then I added more because the top was still somewhat dry. Oh well live and learn. As long as it performs well from now on.
I saw a video on YouTube by shavebusta lathering MWF. Before I saw that video I tried many different methods. Now I stil soak it but after trying his method I finally got it to lather for me =D I got awesome slick and very protective lather
Never understood why. I have no trouble whipping up mounds of lather in a bowl. I like to change things up now and then and I'll never be a competely bowl or face latherer.
My belief is solely based on opinion, rumors, imagination, and conjecture. I think it is because MWF needs to soak up water before it will readily get picked up on the brush. Most people I have talked to will agree that MWF gets easier as it is used. So, what's the difference between a new puck and a used puck? Water has been added.
Me as well. I own quite a few wonderful soaps, but with MWF I feel kind of "privileged" to own it. It could be described as the "pride and joy" of my soap collection. I will NEVER, EVER be without it.
I totally agree. I have some wonderful soaps but nothing comes close to mwf. I could use it every day.
I used MWF for my shave tonight half hour ago. Not really sure what to think at the moment. Either the lanolin doesn't agree with my skin or I wasn't paying enough attention to my technique because I'm feeling a bit red raw, not so much on the neck which is usually my sensitive area but more around the mouth/chin. Maybe just went a little too close, but just read so many good things about the post shave feel I expected a lot more and kinda feel let down. Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow morning the irritation will have subsided. I think I may not have added enough water for the first pass, the razor was constantly clogging with soap and hair, second pass with a little added water was much better
I got the ceramic bowl with my MWF. I use cold water from the tap when I shave. I soak my brush in the cold water and then squeeze it out, load for 25 seconds, and go to the face. I always have plenty of lather from the fat. The puck size never bothered me. With some lather finding its way down the sides, the puck is firmly ensconced. I like the looks of the ceramic bowl, but if I had it to do over again, I would probably just by the refill and put it in a plastic bowl or tin. The ceramic bowl seems pretty fragile.
