  1. razor - Schick J1 arrived today - and I thought skipping my first-thing shave was a bad thing, but how great did that work out!
blade - NOS Gillette Platinum Plus
    brush - Semogue 1250
soap gel - Dr. Bronner's Organic Shaving Gel

I was so excited about the J1 that I just had to break out a GPP blade. Oh, yeah! Great brush, so that was a known. However, I must say how disappointed I was in the Dr. Bronner. It didn't ruin it, but pulled down the enjoyment factor of an otherwise great shave.

In brief, the shaving gel doesn't really lather. What lather there is dissipates quickly. A bit low in cushion, but nicely slick. On the bright side, it really left my skin feeling quite nice.

But why am I talking about the shaving gel in a razor thread? Because I am going to hold my initial impression until I go with a winning soap. I'll decide tomorrow. Until then, here's the pic:

  15. This weekend I had to shave by candle light...practically in the dark due to a power outage in my area....I automatically reached for my Schick Hydro-magic.....That shows my trust in this foolproof shaver...and she delivered beautifully....First time I ever shaved in the dark! Ha Ha...and my Schick came through! Woot! Bravo!

    Also.....just in!
An hour ago, 1:00am Tue. I used my gold OCMM that Hoosier Trooper Tom gifted me...
This was actually the first SE razor I ever used, and I had heard all the stories....and found them to be unfounded.
She does have claws but she's a real pussy cat... I actually found her to be incredibly easy to receive an effortless BBS. It's just like the old ads say....this razor gives you the perfect angle....so if you listen to her and use a light touch (little finger under the knob) She will remove those whiskers like a hot knife through butter...;)

So tonights shave was no different....Just about perfect in every way...I really don't know why I don't use this razor much more often....She deserves as much 'facetime' as possible, a situation I intend to remedy in the immediate future....;)

  16. I think the Personna injector blades you might be able to find at beauty supply stores are called mini hair shapers and they usually come in a dispenser without the key to load them in an injector razor. So if you don't have a dispenser with a key to put the blades in, you might be better off getting some from somewhere else.

Here's a pic of the hair shaper blades. The package even has a place for the injector key but it's not there.

  17. Check out Ted Pella, Inc. they have coated and non-coated stainless steel blades made by ASR packed 20 to a dispenser. I use the coated blades and get 5 or 6 good three pass shaves from each.
  18. DSCN0141.JPG DSCN0142.JPG Can anyone advise how old these Personnas are? They came with a Schick I-2 I bought off eBay, and they are great!

And can I expect any Injector blades today to be as good?
  19. You're going to have to find them online... For Personna blades I recommend http://connaughtshaving.com/injectorblades.html don't be turned off that it is a UK site. Shipping is cheap and we save money since we don't pay the VAT tax EU members are subject to.
  20. I've already posted these in the hauls section lately but I'm definitely an SE enthusiast so I thought I'd post pics of my latest SE acquisitions since last posting in here.

I'm deep in the throes of RAD right now... Much to SWMBO's chagrin. Heh

    (pic heavy... I like pics)
