The Haul: November 2014

Very nice set you have their youngunn.

 

Pulled the trigger on this yesterday. Told myself that if it was still in the shop after a month, I'd go back and get it.

From doing some research, this appears to be a 1932 Silver Rolls Razor Imperial "No. 1". I looked it up at http://www.shaveworld.org/home/images/RollsPage3.html

It's in amazing condition. Seems to have all the papers with it, original blade, and even the strop shows minimal wear. Wouldn't quite call it minty, but it's darn good. It even has the original price on it with the tag line "the safety razor that pays for itself. $15."

I'm kind of afraid to shave with it.

 

Very nice Rolls. I have one but it is pretty used, but the blade is a 1947, my birth year, so that's cool.

 

Now that, sir, is really excellent! I'm proud of you, padawan!
They are really good shavers, if a bit rough at times. Just be careful and use it like a GEM MMOC: almost flat against the skin and no pressure. Short strokes. I usually make some extra slick lather when I use a Rolls.

That's quite a good price. I see there is another one out there now on eBay for $99,99 in Buy It Now. I would say based on that, you got a deal!

By the way, I wasn't even familiar with these... that's quite a piece of machinery!

 

Yeah, the fun is: it's not just a beautiful piece of self-stropping engineering, but it's even adjustable! The screw in the back exposes more blade - or less of course.

 

Yeah it's the first ever adjustable razor and probably the only SE that's adjustable. It had infinite settings, from sub Tech mildness to beyond ridiculous aggressive OCMM.

The guard is also an Archimedes screw, that rolls on your face and takes the lather on your face and forces it into the blade for maximum cushion. I can hardly wait to shave with it.

It's huge! And for a $1 I like that she's keeps an eye out for me. When she goes to the junk stores, she'll text me pictures of stuff I might want. Now I have her and my daughter on the hunt for Rubbermaid brushes.
