NO-Variation NOVember - one razor, one brush, one setup, one month. Can you do it?

Boars on average tend to be the most thirsty when it comes to product and water of the various brush materials with synthetics being the least. Be sure to throughly soak the boar before use so that it absorbs water to keep the product on the outside of the hairs as much as possible.

Same. If I don't soak the boar for the whole time while I'm in the shower, It doesn't perform NEARLY as well as if I just get it wet under the sink like you can do with a Synthetic.

This is a perfect example of why I decided to do this NO-vember thing. I'm learning!!! While I soak the brush while I shower I think I might be wringing out to much before making my lather. That would also explain why I'm having a tough time getting a decent lather (besides being my first hard soap). Lather is not something I normally have trouble with.

Boars in general, but not all, usually can perform much better if they soak for at least 5 minutes or 10 minutes depending on the type of boar hair (yes there are types and grades of boar hair but I will not discuss here) that the brush uses.

Still in! 9 days so far. I've learned that 2-3 days (no more) seems optimum for me with the Voskhod blade. At least, without doing anything to it. Might try palm-stropping to see if I can get one more day out of a blade.

I've read differing answers on whether turning the blade over helps, or if the blade is already warped by being in the chamber and tightened down, and that turning it over might even result in a bad shave. Anyone have any experience in flipping their blade?

youngunn Where's my TSD aftershave balm???

Some say that it doesn't do anything, others that do swear it does. I personally flip the blade every shave. I swear I see a difference sometimes if the blade is starting to wear. YMMV

Shave today with a 2 1/2 day growth. I'm really enjoying this Aristocrat. It's well balanced, not to heavy or to light. Today I worked on razor angle and made sure the brush was nice and wet (thanks for the advice GD), but I left the soap puck dry. Got a much thicker lather that brushed on nicely. Today was absolutely the closest, nicest shave I've EVER had, definitely a BBS. Gonna be faceturbating a lot.

Wish I could help but I know nothing about that brush.

I tried using a hot towel today which i haven't done for a long time. It was very relaxing but I think that the water was too hot because after the third part my face felt a bit sore. And very pleasant shave.

I just drop my brush in the sink and start the cold water. I then wet my face and do my face wash with the Nivea face wash. My brush probably doesn't "soak" more than 3 minutes. I do a soft squeeze and a little shake and then load my brush. I, of course, face lather. Maybe it is the great water I have, but whether I use a boar or a badger, I seem to be getting very good results. Cold water shaving rules. YMMV.

I soak my 48 in a pint glass of cool water as I shower.

I am starting my second Astra blade. No need to have a bad shave. I've been cleaning and then stropping the blade on my forearm. I usually change blades after 6 or 7 days, but this one lasted me 9 days. This setup is turning out to be a good one. Here is Monday's line up.

That's why I picked this one up (eBay $22) it was a steal.

Amazing. I use the Astras SP's and day 4 is always a miserable shave. Normally change after 3 days/shaves.

When you find the average wear out rate of a blade in a particular razor (in this case 3) don't exceed it.
