The shave I got today....well I've just never gotten a better, closer shave period.....This razor really is Perfect in every way...I would have to agree that maybe the 1912 design is the best razor design ever......And this Star 1912 has nailed exactly what "I" want from a razor. Nothing fancy or flashy...Just a beautiful old design that makes getting a perfect shave about as easy as it gets....:love055: YMMV

    Optimal Shave
Every part of this shave was simply excellent. The HIS easily whipped up the Dickens into protective lather that set up my stubble to be humanely guillotined by Der Vorschlaghammer, and my KFBR finished the shave off right. My skin feels as good as it ever has post shave.

    Prep: Proraso Green pre barba
    Soap: B&M Dickens
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: Der Vorschlaghammer
    Blade: Astra SP
AS: Krampert's Finest Acadian Spice Bay Rum

I decided to go with my Micro-Touch with a new Dorco blade to see what kind of shave I'd get this morning and it was pretty good - ok, not as close as with my Super Speed but still very acceptable. Irena's Ice Mint soap is awesome - what a beautiful scent it has, and does it ever lather easily. It also gives a terrific menthol sensation with plenty of soothing skincare. The Gold Bond moisturizer did a great job at cooling my skin, as well as protecting it from irritation, and the Proraso Green aftershave cooled it even more. Now, it's off to work. ;) :D

    11/13/14 - New Frankentech shave

I purchased a new to me Frankenrazor last week for a ridiculously low price and received it in the mail yesterday. A little clean up and I was ready to give it a try. Basically, it is an early New plate with a Tech cap and heavy Tech handle and let me tell you what, it shaved just fine today.
    Prep: warm wash
    Lather: Old Spice
    Brush: Omega boar
    Razor: NewTech LC
    Blade: Voskhod (1)
Post: warm rinse, cool rinse and Old Spice aftershave

The temperature outside is pretty cool so I appreciated the warm lather from the scuttle. The Long Combed NewTech did a fantastic job of whisker removal this morning.

Hot shower w/Axe Chilled, soak, lather (3-4 min.), hot towel
    VDH Badger
Arkho Stick + Nivea Cream (Sensitive)
Gillette Super Speed Flair Tip w/Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless (2)
Cold water, witch hazel, Skin MD, TSD AS Milk - Tabac
Face and jawline - W/X/A Neck - W/X Touch ups

An acceptable shave (which is my only goal anymore). A slight bit of irritation on my neck, but not too bad for a vintage.

You can still buy nos on Ebay but the prices have spiked tremendously since I got mine. I have upwards of 100 and I'm hanging on despite the enormous profit I could realize.

Yes, the same price statement can be said for many of the 1960s and early 1970s vintage stainless steel blades.
