Not new to wet shaving, but new around here. I am in Birmingham, AL - hence the TideFan. I've been wet shaving for quite some time, and kind of worked into a comfortable pattern. I haven't bought a lot in a long time. I don't remember everything I have off the top of my head, but this is what I can remember: Razors: Merkur HD Gillette Fatboy Gillette Slim Gillette Red Tip Gillette short-handle Super Adjustable GEM Single Edge A couple of older Gillettes - can't remember what kinds - they aren't for use, I found them in my grandfather's bathroom after he died, so they are mainly for sentimental value Brushes: QED Select Silvertip brush - don't know if QED even sells these anymore Omega boar Soaps: QED Lime QED American Gent Speick Irisch Moos Valobra stick Creams: TOBS Avocado TOBS Sandalwood TOBS Mr. Taylor AOS Lavender Tom's of Maine mint (stocked up on this when I heard it was being discontinued, still have 2-3 unopened tubes) Aftershaves: Aqua Velva Blue (my principle aftershave) Aqua Velva Sport (the green stuff) Master's Bay Rum Hope to learn some new things on here.
Strangely, I feel like we are in good shape. All we need to do is win out!!! Glad you found us on the den!
Welcome to the Den. I live in Texas but spent a lot of my life in Alabama. My mom is from Tuscaloosa, so 'Roll Tide!' I have the same Gillette adjustables that you have along with the 34cHD that was my first DE razor. My FB is my go to razor with a Feather blade. This is a great place to learn, with great friendly folks. Enjoy the ride.
I go back and forth on what my favorites are. I've been using Astra Superior Platinum blades for a while - I get them 100 at a time. Currently my go to is my Merkur, but the Fatboy gets a decent amount of use. For lather, I've really been favoring my creams lately - rotating between TOBS Avocado, TOBS Sandalwood, and AOS Lavender. I actually don't get over to Tuscaloosa much - only once in a great while. I like to go to the original Dreamland there (test to see if you know what that is), but they also have one here in B'ham.
Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
I'm sure it's much better than Atlanta's version. I'm a Texan though, so I prefer brisket. I miss Texas...
Yeah, even the one on B'ham isn't quite as good as the original, but if I don't want to drive 1.5-2 hours round trip, it suffices. But they sell a whole lot more than just the ribs now. Dreamland is an acquired taste - my wife doesn't like it. It is a spicy, vinegar sauce, with no sweet to it at all. Man - now I am really jonesing for some. Might have to talk my wife into BBQ tonight.
