Shave of the day for Friday Nov. 14, or, everything old is, well, really pretty old. Prep- cold water face wash with Yardley Lavender Water-warm Soap- Bearded Jack's oakmoss vetiver Mug- world's ugliest scuttle, vintage (attractive side pictured) Razor- 1908 Gillette single ring Blade- astra sp Brush- German boar, vintage Rinse- Thayer's lavender Aftershave- Seaforth scotch leather, vintage Lotion- Score Cologne- Cordovan I got this single ring the mail yesterday. It preempted my plans for this morning. Shave with a hundred year old razor? Oh, yes please! I also got a batch of soap from Bearded Jack's the mail. Just the fragrance that came out of the envelope shot those to the top of the list. Then I had this scuttle laying around that I got in a lot. So I decided to give that a whirl... so, my results; The single ring is a great shaver. But I like mild. I need to use it a few more times to get a read on it, but so far, it impressed me. Gillette had it figured out early. It is also a beautiful little thing. No cracks, and the hundred years of patina really adds to the aesthetics. Scuttles are weird. It was sort of fun to use, but clunky. The hot water made the lather quite warm and pleasant. As a die hard cold water shaver, that was also weird, but only because it was a new sensation, not because it was bad. It was really enjoyable. I won't use it again real soon, but I will definitely keep the scuttle in mind for 'pampering' days. Bearded Jacks soap. I am very impressed with this stuff. Smells amazing! I bought 2 big pucks, and 3 little ones just to sample their products. I am a proponent of supporting independent business, and this did not let me down. Fantastic lather. Dense, slick and cushioning. I have to try the rest of my samples, but just this one will have me ordering more.
The Captain's Choice bowl is great. It's well made, sized to fit in your palm, has ridges on the bottom for easy lathering. What more can I say? I'm sure that you could even eat Cheerios from it if you like.

Brrrr! Chico dosen’t like walking on the salt so it makes for an interesting walk downtown, where they always go overboard on the salt application, then complain about having to repair the sidewalks in the spring LOL... It's cold at That Shave Life!

My man, as much as you hate snow, what we get down here (thick sheet ice) is even worse. Can't drive in it and is hard to even keep it sanded/salted (we use more sand than salt). Very irritating! Be sure to get that new blade in. Day 5 on that Astra would not be a very sweet shave indeed. Your doing a great job with the blog, keep it up!
A freaky picture for freaky Friday. One of the best shaves I have had in No variation November. Really enjoying the DR Harris soap. Easy to use and a great scent. Razor - Pils DE Brush - Whipped Dog 22mm Silvertip Aftershave - Nivea for men moisturising balm Blade - Wilkinson Sword Lather - D.R Harris Windsor scent.
Great shot Bama-Saurai-American-Ninja-Warrior. Good lighting and the snow is a nice touch for a frosty menthol shave. Did you walk outside after using that proraso green?

NOVember 15's Nivea for Men Sensitive Face Wash C.O. Bigelow Shaving Cream Omega Pro 98 boar brush Gillette Super Speed '47 Astra SP CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayers Lemon WH Pinaud Clubman Nineteen degrees outside and I am still doing the cold water shave thing. The C.O. Bigelow Shaving Cream face-lathered very easily with my Omega Pro 98 Boar Brush. Two passes with my '47 Gillette Super Speed and Astra SP blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
The stage is set, and tomorrow morning will be the first shave with the newly acquired Rosegold R41. I've always been curious to see if the rumors are true, and hopefully all goes well. Have a good weekend gents...wish me luck. ** POST Shave Update** Talk about an effective razor. I only needed 2 passes to destroy any signs of facial hair. This razor provides very good feedback, which I will use to help me determine which blades work best in the beast. It's more aggressive than most razors I've used, but I think I hyped it up more than I needed to. The true test was on my neck area, and the R41 passed with flying colors. Less passes and zero irritation. It's a keeper!
