PIF to newbies. Ideal newbie soap. Cheap. Glide. Easy to work. Smells good (or at least polarizing). Probably even goes great on toast with some beluga and a sliver of dill. It's awesome.
In my last shave... I was thinking about razors. If I had $5000 custom golf clubs, and Tiger Woods has a $179 set from target...he will still obtain better results than I ever could on a pro course. Technique is driving my shaves now.
I love the shave my Cobra and King Cobra give and can't wait on the Mongoose. I was thinking after today's shave that I wouldn't mind dumping DEs completely. I'd like to give a clog proof a go some day.
I actually think I like the tub better than the stick. I've enjoyed using the stick for face-lathering this month but the puck is nice because it has the plastic case and (in my opinion) allows more of the scent to come through (maybe because of more surface area?).
Don't give up on a blade until you use it in all your razors, you just never know. That last one could be an ideal setup.
From this morning I learned that I need to slow down, and that menthol can mask technique issues. My shave felt very good until the menthol wore off and I felt a little burn.
I just learnt that I fa'reaking love the short comb New I just picked up last weekend. It's the Canadian version of this great razor and I'm thrilled to finally get to experience the difference between the long and short comb varieties. I paired it with my trusty Astra SP and some Razorock Classic for an effortless two pass shave with a couple spots of touch up. Perfection.
I am making a conscious mental note of this statement. hmmm. Doubt has been introduced into my mind. This is good. Have I been deceiving myself with menthol? I have been doing the NOVember game with Proraso green and Skin Bracer. Perhaps next month I ought to be using a soap/AS/Toner, etc without the menthol. I started DE earlier this year and am aware that while I have improved greatly over my first shave...I am nowhere yet near an "expert" at my own tools. I say this after being on the same razor for maybe like 65ish days or more. Has menthol been my crutch? Maybe this calls for... Arko! Arko! Arko! just got a stick in the mail! (I love Arko.) I am making a point to make my first shave in December an old school no-menthol shave. Arko! Some Gillette blade Pinaud Clubman on face Jeris on scalp Alum Yep, that will be the plan. So in effect, in a circuitous way...that's what I learned from my last shave.
I was reminded of how happy I am that I didn't give up on SE razors a few months ago. I'm on a SE-shaving-spree right now and am getting some absolutely fantastic shaves. This morning's was no exception:
I wish I had learned something. For now I am left wondering why I have such bad razor burn and I didn't do anything different.
I came to the realisation that my beard now is nowhere near the beard I started DE shaving with. Therefore I intend to revisit the blades that I trialled when starting out. I imagine my results will be very different now. My beard used to be very coarse and wiry, sore to rub, and I had to shave every other day, or more commonly leave it for ages. Now my beard is quite light, seemingly grows slower and I only really have to shave every 72 hours or so, due to the quality of my shaves. I don't think the blades that tugged before, will this time around. I'm looking forward to it.
I shove my sticks, three at a time, into a 5" round by 3" deep food container, three at a time. The scent is fantastic when I open it!!!
That me and the Fatip Piccolo just ain't ever gonna be best of friends. "Acquaintances" would be pushing it. I foresee a PIF in one of our futures.
