    Tabac Samstag
I got the usual smooth and comfortable Tabac shave. I used Der Vorschlaghammer with Astra SP, and it's a good combination. I finished with Krampert's Finest Acadian Bay Rum.

    today's shave
hot water wash with nivea men's
    west German badger
    bombed Palmolive classic
    1928 Gillette New Standard
    Gillette blade(1)

today's shave was cool. I was inspired to used the Palmolive, ever the nice performer. my new standard always gives a close shave.I used some hand-me-down Gillette blades that someone gave me along the way. they are marked made in USA. seemed very sharp and smooth. three passes made for a excellent shave. finished with iced Florida water, from a repurposed spray bottle.
hope y'all did as well, or better.

My quick traveling shave yesterday gave me quite a bit of stubble this morning. The Weber/Voskhod combo delivered again. Unfortunately for me, my 20 year old used my Weber a couple of days ago and likely, unless I buy another one, I will be losing my razor!

youngunn Where's my TSD aftershave balm???

Yeah in the story I explain why I switch to a merkur mid shave.

And yeah people use vintage soaps a lot, as old as 40 or 50 years old... Just have to soak them in water overnight to rejuvenate them and you're good to go.

Love this pairing of soap and AS. Complex, smoky, incense, far east scent filled the bathroom. The Meta Nectar has a slightly sweeter scent than the soap. Have a good weekend.

SoTD for Sat, Nov. 29, or, love's an injection (apologies to Hanoi Rocks)

    Pre- eucalyptus/lavender oil
Water- very hot, soap / cold shave
    Soap- vintage English lavender
    Razor- Schick Golden 500
    Blade- Schick Gold / personna
    Rinse- Thayers Lavender
    Aftershave- Osage Rub
    Lotion- score
    Topper- vintage Brut

Finally got a Schick Golden 500. The case is worn, but the razor looks unused. The blade dispenser is even full! I tried to use one of the original blades, and although it worked on some parts of my scruff, it was too dull for most. So I swapped in a new blade... Woo! What a machine! This is a great razor. For me, this thing approaches perfection. Feels great, looks great, shaves great. Got the equivalent of my average DFS shave with about half the work to get there. No irritation, nicks or weepers... if I had a complaint about Schick injectors, it is that they clog very easy. This one is no exception. But the hydro-magic lever quite nicely addresses that issue. All in all, a quite nice shave. Can't wait to use this guy again.
Today's soap was a vintage soap-in-a-bowl that came in a nice Gem boxed set I recently acquired. It is allegedly English Lavender, but it may have lost its fragrance over the last 75(!) odd years. But like most old soaps I use, it lathers up amazingly easily and has great slip. You may have gathered from my SoTD posts, I am a big fan of vintage soaps (vintage everything if I am being honest!). It is rare that I get one that really disappoints me. Brush is a beautiful green marbled and black Ever Ready. It came out of the same Gem set. I have been trying to work the full set into my posts, but things keep distracting me. Maybe tomorrow.
And finally, the product. First, Osage Rub. This stuff is the bees knees. You menthol guys obviously know, but this is my first strongly mentholated product. I have a few things that list menthol as an ingredient, but this is a whole different thing. It is awesome! The cooling sensation comes on slow. I put on a lot. Felt a little tingle, and said, 'well that was a bit overrated' and got on with my routine. About 3 minutes later, I became aware that my face was doing something weird. Another couple of minutes in, and my face felt like ice. Actual ice. It was pretty nifty. Now I really see the fuss about menthol. Going to have to update my holiday wish list!
Last up was some Brut. I got a couple old bottles in a vintage fragrance lot I picked up. This is the one smell that can time warp me back to childhood. In the early 70s, my dad loved Brut, and Hai Karate. I am dying to get back to my mom's house because I know she still has a couple of my dad's Schick Adjustables and some unopened Brut and Hai Karate sets. I could never figure out why no one would throw them out. Now I am hoping that no one has! But back to today- Brut... Is it aftershave? Or cologne? The packaging isn't real clear about it. My little bottle is missing its gorget, but the printing just says 'lotion'. Well that isn't helping me, Brut. I decided to try it out in the cologne role. It still smells nice after 2.5 hours, so it is doing better than most of my aftershave... So I guess we will see how it goes.

Now you see why the J Class Hydro Magic along with the F Class are two of my favorite razors. Enjoy the shaves!

    29 November Shave

The Omega Pro 49 has broken in well and worked up a good lather with Mama Bear's Aged Spice soap. The fragrance of the Mama Bear's Aged Spice soap was much more on line with Old Spice than the Soap Commander I tried last week. The Type F injector provides a very aggressive shave. The mix of several different Old Spice fragrances provides a good approximation of the Old Spice scent. That helped to bring the Old Spice vibe into my morning. All in all a good shave.

yes, so far they are topping my list. I still need the ivory Golden 500 to finish my Js. The F type is my current burning need. I want one desperately... they don't seem to pop up much. That and the short handled K3... my top two Schick wants.
