When you shave with this razor, you want the head to almost be against your skin. It likes a very shallow angle, about 10 degrees. And of course, no pressure.

My local Walmart carries it in the lotion aisle on the bottom shelf and it's around $2.58.

Unfortunately for the story, the truth of the matter is that him being cut off mid-sentence is merely apocryphal. There is some evidence that he did finish the sentence. Still....

I have not shaved in two days. I meant to, I really did. But the past two days are my time off from work, basically my weekend, and once squandered, my shave time never reappeared. I barely left the house, so no harm done I guess.
I have recently obtained a pretty good amount of various Gem razors. They are all in great condition... many look unused. I really like the earlier types, and was picking up stuff like the G-Bar and Featherweight mostly because they tend to be too cheap not to. But once they got into my hand, love bloomed. To say I am enchanted by these razors would be an understatement. I have a pile of Gem razors sitting on my ottoman so I can play with them while I am watching TV, etc. I thought the minty Damaskeen 1912 (complete with cool illustrated cardboard outer package and new wrapped blades) would be the clear favorite, but it is the G-Bar I keep coming back to. I love it. The design is so crisp and modern. An absolutely perfect example of good atomic age industrial design. So for my first shave in two days, I knew it was going to have to be the G-Bar.
So, my design geekery aside, how was the shave? Pretty darn close to perfect. I did a two pass shave, WTG/XTG and was BBS. No need for the usual 3rd ATG pass. And with two day growth, zero irritation or bloodshed was a nice bonus to the easy shave. I just can't say enough good things about this razor. This and other recent acquisitions are going to force a radical reorganization of my 'top 10' razor rack.
As far as the rest of the shave... I have trumpeted the glory of vintage Williams before. My new PSO mix seems to be good. The 'black castor' oil seems to not only have a smoother viscosity, but it also seems to have a significantly better hair softening ability. Or at least that is what my first use of the new mix indicates. Time and testing will tell...
Today was the first wearing of my new set of vintage Yardley AS/Cologne. The funny thing is when I first got it, my girlfriend smelled it, and pronounced it to be 'not that special'. Today on my way out of the house, she asked what I was wearing, because she thought it smelled so good. Said it was her favorite thing I have worn in a while. Interesting how much one's chemistry can alter the basic fragrance.

Thank you. I do need more shaves with my Micromatics. I have 9 shaves in with the MMOC and 1 with the MMOC. When I get done using razors that are new to me I will be going on a binge of using SE razors. Then I hope to dial in the Micromatics.

Your 'Michigan Morning' AS sounds fantastic! I can actually imagine the smell you are going after. And it seems like you nailed it... I am a Michigan native...I am going to have to try and make some of this aftershave for those homesick days.

    Whoos the man soap update:
I wrote a pleasant email to Michelle the owner of Whoos the man. She replied promptly, offered me a new puck of my choice and a few aftershave samples so I can find the right one. I wasn't expecting this offer. I did accept her offer.
Whoos the man soap has gained a customer for life.

I know, but it is funnier being cut off in mid sentence. After my dad died, I was talking with my uncle and asked him if he knew his last words. He said, "No," and leaned in with interest. I said, "Shut up, Coralie!" It got a good laugh. If you knew Coralie, you would understand. They were almost his last words though. My brother made a sign and put it on my dad's head stone that said, "Silence At Last." My mother made him take it off.
